Hi, I am new here, and I have registered because of a problem I have with this camera.

I apology beforehand if this has already been covered, but there are too many posts and I have little time to do a proper research.

So, I've been given some MTS material from two different cards: one of 16GB and another from 8. I have no problem when transcoding the 16GB one in FC, but it won't detect the smaller one. The problem is:

"8 contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media".

However, when I look at the parent directory, everything is exactly the same as the other card, except for an extra bin that contains a .txt file. I've tried moving this bin, but it is useless, the same problem keeps arising.

Any suggestion will be more than welcome.

You will probably have to convert the files with something like toast or compressor(?)... FC is very temperamental about the file structures, and sometimes they get changed... and i swear its my computer, I've dealt with this a few times.

Good thing is it sounds like the footage is still there, in the stream folder - you can try to play it in VLC media player to make sure.

There is also a tool to rebuild the structure (someone else can mention), and sometimes if you can put it back in the camera it will fix it.

They work fine on vlc.

Access to the camera is nearly impossible, so I will probably use another program. I was thinking more about moyea mts converter. Is it a good choice if I want my vids to have the Apple Pro Res HQ 422 compression?

Thanks for the quick answer!

-thanks James

Although I am not familiar with those programs, prorez HQ is what we all use with FCP L&T.

Is there any place in the USA to buy this camera? It would be nice to have the option to shoot PAL. Once in a great while I get a request to do so.

Thanks,
Tom

The cheapest I've found an HMC151E recently is from Jigsaw systems in the UK. Other had them cheaper (I bought 3 of my 4 cheaper than this) but they were all pre-price rise due to the currency movements.

Ouch - they just went up another couple of hundred quid even there.... http://www.jigsaw24.com/search/HMC

I was wondering if there was any place in the UNITED STATES to buy a HMC151?

Also, what does the "E" on the end of HMC151E designate? Is there also a model without the "E" and how do they differ?

Thanks,
Tom

Hello Tom,

US Dealers only have access to NTSC equipment from Panasonic. Occasionally dealers purchase and import PAL equipment from European dealers or distributors. These would be considered gray market, with the warranty in country of "origin" (where it was intended to be distributed). B&H has offered PAL equipment like this in the past, currently they do not carry the HMC151... you might try asking around other dealers.

"E" for Europe references the distribution channel for that model. The same way that US cameras have a "P" for Pacific at the end.

Spec-Comm,

Thanks so much for your reply. I was under the impression the 151 was switchable either NTSC or PAL. Is that not the case?

Tom

Exact,

Thanks again. That is dissapointing. I'd sure like to have NTSC / PAL as an option. Every now and then (although it is pretty rare) I have a client come from Europe and of course the request PAL. In every case we've had to scramble to find a rental house that could supply us with a PAL camera. I'd perfer to keep the money in my own pocket.

I understand the disappointment. For once we got lucky in Europe. Normally things are more expensive in Europe than the USA, but we still get only the same features, or worse, fewer features than the USA.

At least this time, while HMC151 is still more money in Europe than the HMC150 is in the US, we do at least we get the extra features :D

As an example, the Canon 5D was originally released with only 30p which was totally useless for Europeans needing to shoot at 25p, and the cameras still cost more here than in the USA !
