Panasonic AG-AF100 NEWBIE GUIDE and FAQ

Hi Jan,

Does the camera keep recording while changing a lens or does it stop recording once the lens is detached? Thanks for your time.

No it does not travel out of the camera.

Best,

Jan

jan, what signal is coming out of the hdmi? uncompressed same as SDI? compressed? embedded audio?

and do we know what batteries it will use and if any ship with it? Our institution is about to order one and I need to prepare a fairly accurate PO, so knowing as much as possible about what ships with it will be super helpful.

Correction - if you set video out osd to "on", then yes you can get the framing guides on the external monitor.

Barry do you know if you can send the frame guides and info out the HDSDI without sending it out the HDMI? Or vise versa? This would be handy if the client wanted to see timecode or what not on the monitor, but you could still use a clean image out the other output to record to a Nanoflash or similar external device.

It is very important to us: Do the AF100 does VFR in 1080 or 720? I know it is 12 - 60.

BTW What could be the less cost but good enough combination lens-adapter? (a couple or three fixeds lenses + adapter)

We are waiting our AF100 next january and as soon as it comes have few days to learn and then start a full feature. (we already have and work for about 4 years with HVX200)

We need to know what else we need (not too much money anyway)

Thanks a lot!!!

The AF100 does VFR in full 1080p

I am a HVX-200 user who just received an AF100. How do I import to Avid MediaComposer 4.0.2? “Link” and “Import” did not work. I have read in different places that MC4 or MC5 should edit AVCHD natively. I downloaded Cineform Neoscene and converted the AVCHD files to CineForm AVI files. Those were then imported to Avid MC as DNxHD clips. This all worked (took a long time to convert x2) but I lost the audio along the way. Do I need to upgrade to MC5? Is there another work flow? I went to the link Jan had for a AVCHD to DVPRO HD transcoder but could not find it. Thanks. David.

The Panasonic AVCHD to P2 transcoder has been my solution over the past year or two for getting AVCHD into Avid MC. I can't find a functioning link to download the program either. Strange... I believe I last downloaded it March or April of 2010. I use it to convert all the behind the scenes footage from our small AVCHD Panasonic consumer cam for use in Avid. I was planning on trying it out with the AF100 footage if I have trouble from Media Composer with import of the native files.
