The DR of the GH1 in the Zacuto tests may just be due to the baked in gamma curves. I bet it won't be a problem when this camera is released.

Let's not bring the Zacuto thing up again. Oh wait..I just did. Nobody in the Zacuto group was a dedicated GH1 user, and they seemed to treat it as the runt of the group. Much of the negatives attributed to the GH1 are from operator error in that video. And the fact that the slightly smaller sensor made the GH1's compostion and framing different than all the others didn't help either. Plus, different lenses have different amounts of contrast, so many things being attributed to the sensor can also be a by-product of the lens. They should have tested the cameras with the same lens, which I don't think they did.

Is it the 4/3rds mount or the m4/3rds mount?
I believe it's Micro 4/3, which is better. The only difference between them is the flange focal distance. You can easily adapt 4/3 lenses to a m4/3 mount, but you can't go the other way.

So m4/3 is pretty much the single most universally adaptable lens mount available in a camera right now. And I thought they said in the press release that it was micro 4/3.

One of the things I really find interesting is that I can't picture canon being ready to due this quite yet, and that may hurt them big time.

Even if they threw a larger chip into an XL body, I just have no faith in their video people to back it up with the right hardware/codec support. Let alone deliver on this price point.

Maybe by mid to late 2011 they'll get on board too

If they (Canon) did it today it would surely hurt sales of their newly announced cams.

This IS Panasonic's newly announced cam! SWEET!

You won't swap the Canon low light abilities. You can have a safe-conduct to save you from aliasing in the middle of the bunch though.
You don't know that yet. They made huge improvements in the 1/3" sensors of the HPX370, and they have 2/3 of a year before this product even comes out.

Besides, this is coming from the broadcast division, not the consumer division. What the GH1 could do, isn't necessarily indicative of what this will do. $6,000 vs. $600 -- there's a lot of potential for them to put in a better DSP, better everything, and already we know the compression system will be way better.

The press release says "Micro 4/3 sensor" and just "...An interchangeable lens mount". I doubt they reinvented the wheel with a different mount.

Don't you think since the GH2 is supposed to have a global shutter and is scheduled for a Fall release that the same technology will be incorporated into the AF100? I'm hoping the jell-o effect will be a thing of the past.

It is going to be a FANTASTIC camera. For us that know the GH1 well is a no trainer. For the others, well, just get a Canon. That way it will be easier to get one once release time comes around. I just can´t wait ´til December!

I'm already working on a screenplay that I'll shoot with the AF100! Gotta get a few more lenses, a follow-focus, mumble...mumble...making my list of stuff to get before December. :-)

Yeah, c'mon guys. Panasonic is not stupid. They're not going to release a camera from their pro division with the performance and DR of the GH1. Not with 3 or 4 other camera manufacturers competing against them.

zing! exactly

people, stop with the zacuto shoot analogy. thats moronic.

regarding gh2/ global shutter

I have a feeling that wont come true BUT if you want that then wait for it... so you wont feel burned like tsome hpx300 users felt... meanwhile we will enjoy the technology, now.

Whew! I'm glad I stuck with m4/3. This is exactly what we were all hoping for.

Who ever gets the first prototype, I'd be happy to fly or drive to where ever to help out and you are more than happy to use my arsenal of lenses. :) (Barry hint hint)

Great news, an A cam for my B cam(Gh1).

Hopefully there won't be a waiting list like the GH1 had...

The improvement on the 370 over the 300 shows how much more knowledge they have gained on the sensors, etc. The same as with everything related to the GH1 performance and shortcomings, which are pretty solvable, applied to a camera 10 times its price. Panasonic is going to use all its engineering prowess to prove a very important point to the competition in the pro camera market. Delivering a camera with a sensor almost as big as S35 for 6,000 bucks. That is pretty impressive.

And here's another cool thing about m4/3...it's in the sweet spot in terms of shallow depth-of-field. Here's why: Let's say you want a nice fuzzy background but you want SOME depth-of-field so your focus puller doesn't go insane. But you're working in low light so you open up to f2.0. Well, on an APS-C sized sensor, you're going to have a helluva job pulling focus at f2. But on m4/3, you've got a bit more wiggle room, and the DOF looks like 35mm film at about f2.8, which is totally respectable and what many films are shot at. I think this is an advantage nobody has talked about.

and itll shoot out of the box.. you dont have to pay 7000, buy viewfinders, batteries, lcd, remote or other parts that are over priced etc. etc.

so basing on what jan said... this thing resolves in 4k and resizes/outputs in 1080 hd? sweet! Thatll be one one sharp image i hope!

I agree. We're all well aware of how successful Canon's DSLRs have been, but I don't think they're ready to compete with Sony and Panasonic.

I have a feeling they're going to milk this DSLR video "trend" (for lack of a better word) for a little longer.

There's only a half-stop difference between micro 4/3 and APS-C. f/2 on the APS-C will look like f/2.4 on the micro-4/3.
