Well, looks like they will beat Canon to the punch. It's all starting to happen this year.

Finally

Finally!!!

two critical things I want to know is if the sensor is low resolution - 2 k - thus we can get some awesome low light. if it's 14mpx then down rezzed..yucko aliasing.

also does the HDMI or SDI give us more resolution than the codec can handle - 4k?

I hope SDI works with a AG-HPG20 "Equipped with two P2 card slots and a 3.5-inch LCD monitor, the P2 Portable lets you view content immediately in a variety formats -- whether it's 10-bit, 4:2:2 AVC-Intra or DVCPRO HD or in standard definition in DVCPRO50, DVCPRO and DV.....With professional inputs/outputs (IEEE 1394, USB 2.0 and HD-SDI) and AVC-Intra support, the P2 Portable serves as a low-cost, master-quality deck"

I wonder how the internal ND filter improves the aliasing, are they blurring the image in some way to lower the resolution to 1080?

WOW, wow and just WOW! BEN wasn´t you who designed this! Barry Green didn´t you pushed the idea! It looks terrific. I said it many times before, the big guys are ready to keep playing ball the way they know how to. Can´t way to see some footage from this baby. Thanks Panasonic once again!

I think that slide is confusing. The ND Filter is so that I can reduce the amount of light coming into the camera and not have to stop down, thus losing my Depth of Field. I don't think that Joe read the slide carefully, I know I didn't create that slide as the ND doesn't improve the the aliasing issue. An optical Low Pass filter does.

Best,

Jan

Okay several questions here. First the sensor is the same as the GH1 Lumix camera, then we optimize it for HD recording. There will not be aliasing as we actually have a clue about what causes that and since we actually build video cameras, we can engineer in the resolution. so no aliasing.

Second question, in order to get a 4K stream one would have to ahave a fairly expensive chip set that would give you two paired HD-SDI outs and record to an S-Two or some such device. This camera delivers an uncompressed HD output, if you want to by pass the AVCCAM codec, you may, but since it doesn't have the second output, no 4K.

Hope that helps,

Jan

Cheers to Panasonic on this announcement Jan.

Being a world where everyone wants everything.

I would have really loved, would really love, an AVCIntra version with p2. Keep my investment in p2 valuable.

Very exciting. Glad to know Panasonic was paying attention to our photoshopped mockups and the GH1 users all along...even if we were using a consumer product.

Hopefully the consumer division does something cool with the GH2 as well.

If this is not a shot in the heart of Scarlet, I don't know what is. I love my 7D (since I bough it to replace both my K10d and HV30) and even without any video, it's an absolutely awesome still cam.

But this is strong move by Panasonic. Scarlet is going to have to ship this year and sooner than later, be problem-free, easy to edit etc. otherwise they will have a very small market.

Plus, it seems Red is really an "Epic" company these days. The GH1 has a proven sensor and Panny Pro ruled the world with the DVX series (and has done well with the HVX/HMC, so they know how to design a great video camera.

It will be interesting to see if Canon (or Nikon) responds but their Broadcast/Video side has never been as sharp (they are still enamored of 1/3"), so I think it will have to come from the DSLR side.

Wow

Wow

Congrats Jan - glad your company has truly listened - I am stumped. This is my go to option now. Thanks again

This announcement is phenomenal. To really listen to the community and put together a dream product like this is amazing. Can´t wait to get on the waiting list. HVX200 drama all over again!
