The stepper-motors used for focussing are silent (for movie making) and the lens can focus as close as 10cm (four inches). The UK price has been announced as £730 ($1,060), which should probably bring it in at under a grand in the US, possibly in July.

It's $799...which is insanely overpriced.

The images look great though. Pretty darn sharp.

It would seem like comparing the 8mm fisheye to the Olympus 9-18 super wide angle lens is apples and oranges. Unless one is going to un-fish the image somehow in their video editor. (The software that came with my Olympus E-system cams would do this with photos taken with the 8mm) Otherwise, if you're wanting to shoot fisheye skateboarding videos, seems like it'd make more sense to just buy a cheap lens adapter.

If you have $1000USD burning a hole in your pocket, I'd buy the Lumix 7-14mm...then you could always simulate the "fisheye" effect in your NLE I guess...but afterwards you'd still have a kick butt lens...and not just a $1000 replacement for the peephole on your front door. ;)

Sorry...but when I see fisheye videos I can't help but think about the intro to Hawaii 5-0...and I hated Hawaii 5-0. lol

I wonder why Panasonic did not make a rear filter slot on 7-14 like they did on this 8 mm fisheye.
