again, not to belabor the point, but that's what everybody outputs. Even the FS700 is 8-bit only.
I don't own a 4K camera. Indeed only a very small percentage of the shooters I know own 4K cameras - so I don't think we can really call Panasonic late to the party, it's only just started.
The specific statement was in regards to SDI. Raw is a different thing entirely. My point is that 8-bit SDI (and HDMI) is common, 10-bit is nearly non-existent.Pretty sure the FS700 outputs more than 8bit.....that's kind of the whole point of the Odyssey 7Q.
Red, Canon, Sony, and JVC all have released 4K cameras, and BMD is scheduled to release one shortly. Panasonic will be the last of the major manufacturers to do so -- so, yeah, it's late to the party.I don't own a 4K camera. The $2K BMCC has 10-bit HD-SDI.Sony EX1 for one, as in, it's only one of two at all under $13,000; the HPX250 is also 10-bit. Except I think there's an NX5 or something that also has it. And that's IT. That's the entire market of 10-bit camcorder outputs under $13,000 that I can think of.

Not through SDI. The HD-SDI output of the FS700 is strictly 8 bits.Doesn't the 7Q record 'popular codec' non RAW, greater than 8 bit video, from the FS700
as well? I havent stayed up on it as well as I should have but I seem to remember hearing
that it did. But I would agree, it is uncommon to get 10 bit out from a lower priced camera.
Does it? Has anyone tested to see whether it's a true 10-bit output or 8-bit embedded in 10 bits? I'm asking, because I don't know. The $2K BMCC has 10-bit HD-SDI.
I have said for years - if they could get GH2 image quality into the HVX200 form factor and sell it for under $3000 - well…….
The opening post has a picture. It's more like the HPX's I think. I also think it's going to be much more expensive than the AF100 so I don't think it's a replacement or upgrade for them. I'm just guessing from the specs.
But s35 and 4k are the latest "big thing" from Black Magic, surely?no it's not, and the success of BMDCC is a prime example. The problem with AF100 isn't the sensor, but a shitty consumer AVCHD.
Not so, and I think you are confusing the meanings of 4k as a system, and the way it (and 6k) gets used to describe sensors.BUT 4K is so out of date have people not seen that RED 6K is the new kid on the block even though there are no TV's to view it on!
