Panasonic 4k camera system info & updates

bah! I preordered from vistek (canada) a few weeks ago for $1599, their new official price is $1899 (CAD), waiting for them to contact me now about the price increase. Oh well the price of progress I guess.

If companies are going to fish for orders with a fake price they should be held to that. I hate when these places do that. If they don't know the price then don't take pre-orders. I also am not generally a fan of Vistek but that's a whole other story.
 
well we will see, they have a disclaimer at the bottom of their site (like many companies) saying price/specs/images are subject to change. If they up the price to 1899 on my order I will try and squeeze a deal on something else out of them, maybe they'll throw a free battery or a deal on a grip my way, though I will cross my fingers that they stick to the original price. I've never dealt with vistek before but they were the first in Canada(and I think N. America) to do preorders on the GH4.
 
Already on FB (GH4 group) there are claims made GH4 has 13 stops of DR. I am not disputing GH4 is a very nice camera, with incredible features, at good price point, but until there are some frame grabs with proper gray scale chart I treat this claim as total b.s.

Like I said, I am not disputing the fact of camera capabilities, but at this stage any claim about 13 stops of DR is a complete speculation, without any real backup.
 
Sensor itself should have about 13 stops. I don't think compressed video will retain this, though. But if it was raw, sure, 13 stops.

At least this "someone" had his hands extensively on this camera. There will be charts and pixel peeping galore but until then this kind of reports is the best source we have. Certainly better than a totally biased Panasonic promo video.

You can't see 13 stops of dynamic range in a Rec709 image anyway, so comparing a log image to a regular 709 recording doesn't make much sense.
