GH4 Panasonic 35-100 2.8 Interview lens?

Hey folks,

So I'm getting a GH4, and I have a GH3 already that I'd like to use as my B camera. I've used a lot of Canons in the past, and love the interview look the 70-200 lens gives me on a 5D Mark II. It works as a great close angle with nice soft out of focus backgrounds.

I've been trying to find this, but haven't seen a review or topic that covers it. Does the Panasonic 35-100 function as a good close crop interview lens similar to the Canon 70-200 2.8 L? Does anyone have any stories associated with this lens?

I know some would recommend primes, but for the work I do I really need the fast setup of a zoom lens.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, it's a great interview lens. I shoot a lot of my interviews in the 50-60mm range @ f 3.5 and it's great. No futzing around with primes.

I shot this interview with the GH4 + 35-100mm:

Nearly all the footage is 35-100; there might be a Lumix 20mm shot in there somewhere, but the interview was all 35-100. I believe I was on 2.8 the whole time. Shot in 4K, edited in 1080.

I could have probably gotten a bit more background blur moving closer, but overall we were happy with it.

Nice vid, but what about the audio??? What the heck did you guys use? video/audio 50%
Micro 4/3rds doubles not only the focal range, but also the DOP. So consider that 2.8f a 5.6f. Sure its letting in 2.8f worth of light, but the DOP is a 5.6f. Primes at least give you that 2.8f on a full frame.

More than double on GH4 in 4K. ~2.3 I think.

Yeah, I wasn't thrilled with the audio... it took a lot of time in post to compress and EQ, to get it even to that point.

I'd intended to use a wired lav, but it died during soundcheck; one of those unfortunately f-ups when you are sure you have spare batteries, but dont...

So I had to go with a Rode shotgun - it was either that, or reschedule the shoot for another day. Lesson learned ;)
