Panasonic 2010 NAB Predictions???

This was just posted on the Panasonic FaceBook page...
"And you can expect more exciting product announcements in P2 HD and AVCCAM at NAB."

So expect some new goodies besides just 3D.

How about a HPX 180 which would have the best of the HPX 170 with a micro 4/3 lens mount and Panasonic's new CMOS Chip with a global shutter

Although this may only be used on there Consumer Cameras Like the GH1 or new GH2
Panasonic may be working on 4/3 chip that will be a game changer

"Billed as a 'global shutter' and marketed as HD Progressive, Panasonic will for now reserve this feature only for their high end range of camcorders" - "source confirmed that Panasonic's strategy was to divert investment into the development of a global shutter so that they could save money in both R&D and manufacturing costs"

I was looking at getting an HPX300, but now I will definitely wait for NAB to see what's released. Now I can't wait!!!!! Maybe an HPX300A that fixes some minor issues (I know its a long shot, but still possible).

I really do think a successor of both the HMC150 and the HPX170 will be revealed this year. The big question mark is the HMC40. Yes it's newer than those but the TM700 kills it in a few areas.

I think it would be awesome if they did a new multiformat camera- P2 HD and AVCCAM, but I don't even know if that is even technically feasible, processor-wise. If only they gave us that with a MFT sensor!

It does say that the list price is $21k, but since you are buying directly from Panasonic, I suppose the fiscal advantages gained in shopping at various retailers will not be realized. Unless nobody orders them, then Panasonic may have to lower the costs, just to sell them.

Unless Sony, Sharp, Vizio, LG..all adapt the SAME 3D TV Screen technology. I mean a 3d camera that ONLY works with a Panasonic Special Plasma TV?? That's like selling lemonade that can only be poured in special glasses..sold by the same lemonade stand. lol

Just came back from the Panasonic HD 3d Theatre at the Winter Olympics. They had the 3d camera setup so you can see yourself in 3d. The glasses cut the brightness of the HDTV in half. The 3D effect worked in about half the athletic shots of the games. The effect was best with the Beijing Opening ceremony and the Avatar Blu-ray. It remind me a little of those Viewmaster slide viewers. Not really 3d but objects on different planes. However, a couple times I was startled, when a photographer seemed to step in front of the screen, but it was only the video.

I'm very close to deciding on the HPX300. But considering that the street price is now $500 lower, and Panasonic is also throwing in two 32 GB cards and an $800 rebate too, I'm thinking/hoping maybe something new is coming at NAB with that camera or one similar.

Sometimes things are written and they are not reread for the any misinterpretation. If you got this information from anywhere and/or anything written by Panasonic, I apologize for the writer. This is simply not true. 3D acquisition is aimed at just that, it is only once it is in post and getting ready for delivery that the display devices are considered. This camera can acquire for any of the final displays.

Best,

Jan

That's what I thought. Maybe they're trying to sell off the rest of the cameras they've already manufactured, in anticipation of a product to replace it. It's only 1 year old though, and still so much better than almost every other camera in the price range, I really don't know.

I would be stunned and amazed to see any sort or replacement or supplement to the HPX300, it would be unprecedented, unless they just do a 300A and tweak a few things.

What do we Know;
1) Panasonic has been discounting the prices on many of their Pro Video Cameras.
2) Panasonic is committed to P2.
3) Panasonic has invested heavily in 4/3 CMOS chips and is pushing Micro Four Thirds cameras
GF1, G1, GH1, G2 and G10 (four of which shoot video)
4) AVCHD-Intra is still being sported and developed

What we have heard as rumor;
1) Panasonic is developing a 4/3 COMS chip with a global shutter.

It seem to be possible that Panasonic may announce a new Pro Video Camera at NAB which would include all of the above - 4/3 CMOS chip (with interchangeable lens), P2 cards able to record many formats including AVCHD-Intra and if it had a global shutter that would be great. A camera like this could easily compete with Sony, Canon's high end DSLRs as well as the new Scarlet for the market which Panasonic's DVX 100 had owned a large share of.

You read my mind. Maybe the biggest fix(es) they could make is/are:
-CMOS chips with a faster read/reset time (maybe even better low-light performance)
-a better kit lens (or maybe more options of a kit lens, like JVC offers for its HM700)

It really does look like they might be looking to get rid of the HPX300s that retailer have on hand, in hopes of introducing an HPX300A. The P2 card offer ends before NAB, so maybe they want people to buy and commit before they know a possible change?
