Panasonic 16GB rebate update

I received a letter from Panasonic about the 16GB SDHC card I had a rebate for when I bought my camera (back in Feb.):

"We have received your rebate request for the 16GB card; however these cards are currently on backorder. We hope to have this issue resolved soon and apologize for any inconvenience. If you have any questions please contact us at 1-866-339-4296."

I've been waiting since October.

I think their unofficial policy is "been back ordered till we do'lt need to sell them as a retail item - possibly when SDXC makes them obsolete - but if you call and whine about it we'll send you one..eventually". :)

Rebate is handled by an independent party.

Warranty coverage is Panasonic's.

Two entirely different entities.

If the "independent party" is working for Panasonic, shouldn't Panasonic be held responsible for the "independent party" that is using their name? The buck stops at Panasonic.

absolutely- Panasonic made the promise and Panasonic took payment for the camera. They should dip in to the bouty of cards avail for retail and take care of thier current customers

You missed my point. I was responding the the post about using the rebate fiasco as an example of how Panasonic would handle warranty issues. The two are different.

I agree that providing a rebate in a timely manner is Panasonic's ultimate responsibility.

However, warranty repairs are handled directly by Panasonic, and rebates are handled by a 3rd party at Panasonic's behest.

That being said, I think rebates should be outlawed.

Either it put it in the box, or don't offer it as an incentive.

Waiting more than a few weeks is unacceptable; waiting a year or more is just plain wrong and should be regulated.

I couldn't agree more. I'm fairly certain that the various companies count on the consumer procrastinating when applying for the rebate, or just forgetting about them. I've gotten burned by Verizon on more than one occasion; they issue these dang "credit cards" that usually just sit around, until they expire. My bad, admittedly, but still a royal pain. And, you don't dare mess-up on even the smallest detail, or your submission will be rejected.

I really dislike these things, but it's hard to get away from them.

I sent mine in a year ago, messed up 1 number on my serial number. They sent me a letter that it was incorrect. I re-sent the letter with the correct info, haven't seen anything since. Kind of a BS rebate if you ask me

Bingo! Yeah, this major transgression probably sent your submission to the bottom of the "Ignore These" stack.

dudes, it's like $40 to buy a quality 16gb card. If you're already throwing down $4,000 for the HMC and goodies, you might as well grab a card for a fraction of the money you're already spending. Don't stinge out when the difference is huge for a low cost. Paying $40 for a reusable 16 gig card to hold over 90 minutes is awesome compared to paying $40 for 10 miniDV tapes!

I can tell you from personal experience, the rebate is going to be a long wait. For me: a year and 3 months. By that time, I had forgotten about it— so it was like a surprise present for me in the mail.

i bought in december and got it in May, i had to fax again the copy as they missed my mail with original copy. Keep calling and ask for status.

More like $80 for one of these. Though, when I actually bought the camera they were a lot more.
