GH1 Panasonic 12-35 f2.8 announced! (1100€)

This Pana lens has a shorter focal length. The Olympus one has weather resistance when paired with a similarly-built camera.

Word is the 12-35 is also sealed:

"The LUMIX G VARIO 12-35mm F2.8 ASPH lens is predominantly made of metal parts, including the barrel and the mount, which makes this the best constructed Panasonic lens to date. Panasonic claims some degree of weather resistance for this lens (splash/dust proof), and indeed you can see a rubber seal around the lens mount."

weather sealed is good! must mean a weather sealed camera/replacement must be on the horizon. =)

The Amazon U.S. pre-order price is $1300. Do you think it will be available at a significantly lower price in the next two or three months? Is lens pricing like Apple products--always the same with virtually no discounts--or like TV and gadget prices, where the MSRP is more than anyone pays and the price fluctuates a lot?

That's usually the case, but be aware that if availability exceeds demand, as is often the case with this end of Panasonic products, you'll unlikely to see a big price drop soon.

This is going to hurt the wallet. I'll probably buy one if it gets down under $800. $1000 is still a decent price though.

Hurt it will.

But let's see if it becomes a GH3 kit lens (which I think is possible) and that might bring the combined price down somewhat for the person who want's a GH3 anyway.

(Me, me, me...)

The Lumix is probably 1/10 the size (wild guess), half the cost, and has autofocus and OIS. The Olympus is huge, heavy, no OIS, no useful autofocus, but is one stop faster.

I would pay $1200 more for that extra stop regardless of how much size and weight it adds if it still had the IS and the good AFC.

I can see that, but -- that's not what's offered. That's not the choice that's available. You have to pay the additional $1200 for that f-stop, and on top of it you get the bigger size, heavier weight, and loss of OIS and autofocus.

Well I'm excited - especially considering I use most of my fast glass at F2.8 anyway (which is where color and contrast start to shine and DOF becomes accessible). Would have pulled the trigger on the oly 14-35mm but the size and weight weren't very attractive to me despite how wonderful the glass is. The 24mm (35mm equivalent) wide end is nice too.

I'm excited about this zoom too. I hope it's quiet. I've tried a lot of DSLR zooms that you can't use with a mic mounted anywhere near the zoom lens.
