Pan/Softness Issue Solved, Yet?

Yes it has.

The skew/wobble from CMOS Rolling Shutter distorts the waveform monitor. The same thing happens with *all* rolling shutter cameras.

There is no evidence of the actual image softening at all during movement.

I have an Article pending that exaplains it all with a test I ran.

Thanks, Matthew. Didn't see that thread. Been keeping my eye on this camera. For the price, it's looking like a killer camera. I use the HVX and HPX at work and I'm in line for a Red for an indie feature - but the more I look at this camera, the more attractive it becomes. Besides, I'd be able to put more money into talent, costumes, lights, etc.

Mikko thanks for doing this article. How long were you able to get your hands on the EX1?

I did not test with the EX1.

My test was for what effect Rolling Shutter has on the image on a scope. It was a general case test that applies to all rolling shutter cameras, from web-cams to RED, from the EX1 to the Infinity.

I did not test for sharpness in the EX1, I rather tested for the strange scope readout that Barry and others witnessed when they used an (until now) standard acceptable method for testing resolution.

As cameras change, so do the tools needed to evaluate them.

Mikko, I am really looking forward to reading your writeup on the rolling shutter/scope issue. That was a really fun thread and I felt like I learned a lot from it all. Since I don't own a scope, all of my thoughts on it were theoretical, so I can't wait to actually see the results of some real-world tests. Be sure to let us know when/where you are going to post your paper. Thanks.
