PAL AVCHD Workflow

There's one question regarding workflow in PAL-land that I just can't successfully find the answer to.

What are the exact steps required to extract 25p from the 50i AVCHD wrapper (bar using 25pn in GH13)? Is there a pulldown involved or is it simply a matter of deinterlacing? Which programme is best? I can't see a way to produce 25p footage from anything in JES Deinterlacer.

Your opinions appreciated...

You don't need to do anything to extract 25P. Just drop the 25P AVCHD footage in the timeline and it'll be ready to be edited.

hey bhambunath
is this the same for the 720p 50fps footage? drop it straight into the 25p AVCHD timeline and its ready to edit without any (pulldown, de-interlacing, processing type stuff)? :)

Yes, it's same for the 720P. You just drop the 50P footage in the timeline and when you render it you select the 25P output which will skip an alternate frame to give you flawless 25P.

many thanks bhambunath

i have been dropping both my 720 and 1080 footage into my 25fps timeline and exporting. i've always had a horrible thought in the back of my mind that i was missing a vital step as i read a lot of NSTC users discussing having a nightmare and i didn't think PAL users had it so easy... i am glad we do
cheers again

NTSC 3:2 pull down is a consequence of translating a 24p framerate to/from a 30p/60i frame rate. Not an issue with 25p/50i.

yeah, i just wondered if there were any similar issues with the PAL version, bhambunath set me straight

One thing I have noticed in Vegas Pro 9 with 720p 50fps is that when rendering out to 25p , make sure one right clicks each clip and disables resample in the switches menu, as there is no need to resample frames. This greatly speeds up the process.

i run adobe prem/after effects, il double check i'am not resampling clips if its a needless process.
thanks for the tip NORTH HEART
