Scarlet and Ultimate!?...umm noo...(sob) (sob)...I got a kid...and my wife thinks he might goto....(sob) (sob)....(snot)...to college one day. Damn u NAB! Why do you tease me you vicious *****!

So are all of you guys going to Scarlet + Ultimate? If so, are you getting a RedRock MB? What lenses? Will u guys be using a Carrion? I am curious cause those are going to be SICK setups! We will need some flash cards too... and only FCP will do... all of that 4k work flow shi** will become a necessity to many more with Scarlet coming out. Man! Some serious stuff!

I just might be getting one of you guys and use my HVX for BTS! :)

Yes I will be going with the Scarlet + Ultimate.

I have placed my order for the RR MB, and it should be arriving soon. It really looks like a great matte box. When it arrives and I've had a chance to play with it I'll be posting my thoughts on my blog.

As far as lenses go- I'll be using my Zeiss ZF SLR lenses for my own projects- and stock video, and then I'll be renting the cinema glass for my paying gigs. Either Zeiss or Cooke depending on the budgets.

With regards to flash cards, I will definitely be picking those up. The people over at hoodman are developing their own super fast flash cards, so it will be interesting to see what the price comes in at.

Currently I'm already on FCP, so that is not an issue for me. And from what I've heard, the people at RED are working with Apple to get Color to be able to natively grade the RED files, so that will be a sweet thing when it is able to do that. I'm looking forward to what 2009 will bring, very exciting stuff!

2009 for Scarlet is incredibly optimistic. Especially EARLY 2009. I think that's why the disclaimer about dates and info subject to change is made very clear. You may not see it til early 2010 but I'd be happy to be completely wrong about that. I definitely want to grab one.

However, you CAN count on seeing an HPX170 this fall. And, really, there's no sense in waiting on something when there's another really good camera right around the corner.

That is a good point. When Panasonic dropped the price of the HPX to $8k (Body only after rebates), I was seriously considering buying one, as I have used it on past projects, and I have a couple projects coming up that will be using it. However, I think that I will just continue to rent the HPX and then buy the Scarlet when it comes out. I'd hate to invest $8k into a camera and then turn around and try and sell it a year later - trying to get $3k camera that does twice as much.

However, we'll see what news develops as time passes with Scarlet. Either way, the Ultimate is top on my list of adapters to get- as it will work great with either the HPX or the Scarlet. And it will definitely play well with my HVX until I make up my mind. :)

LOL! The man SPEAKS!

To be honest, I think this is the best all-around practice for most people. I can justify spending 5k on an HPX170. That will get paid back swiftly. I can also justify spending the money on an Ultimate to beef the HPX170 up.

But 18k + Is a hard pill to swallow for a broke human like myself. I CAN get one but do I WANT to get one? The HPX170 is really gold, though.

When Scarlet comes out I'll put more thought into it, ofcourse. HPX170 + Ultimate is a sure bet, sure to be released SOON deal and fills the void between myself and Panasonic which I'm grateful for. Better low light performance and Pana flavor is heaven sent for us adapter users.

I agree with you Kholi. The main thing I think that matters is where you footage is aimed. If you're going to one of those 2/3" chips only stations... with the silver, gold rating system then by jove buy a 2/3 camera. Either way, we all must buy what we need.

Under $3k according to RED.

Soccer Mom to feature film maker is how it was described. Can't imagine iMovie supporting RED raw anytime soon ;)

Wow 3k I gotta get on my grind. Yeah Kholi he broke my damn glasses today. I wanted a Labradoodle or a goldendoole...hell even a Multipoo...but no...we had to have a kid. I'm a f' him up that's what's about to happen! I ordered my Redrock mattebox too...screw his college fund!

Would this B4 mount relay lens be compatible with the JVC 1/3" bayonet mount with the use of an adaptor?

$4500 seems like a lot of money just to make a setup a little bit shorter.

It's not $4500 to make a setup shorter. The JVC bayonet is obviously just for 1/3" CCD cameras and this setup will not be compatible with the JVC bayonet but rather with JVC cameras. It is $4500 for a high quality adapter. The B4 amount enables use with 2/3" CCD cameras like the HPX500.

It is important to note that the Letus Ultimate will not be for everyone. It will be for those people wanting better DOF with larger camera chips as well as those wanting more control over their adapter.

RED Scarlet... fixed lens
Letus Ultimate... cornucopia of lenses

RED Scarlet... truly $5000 with necessary accessories
Letus Ultimate... around $5000 with the B4 mount

RED Scarlet... no visible working prototype
Letus Ultimate... visible prototypes of both the adapters and the B4 mount

RED Scarlet... no LCD for settings readout
Letus Ultimate... LCD for settings readout to adjust speed of rotation

RED Scarlet... wifi control
Letus Ultimate... dunno why you'd want wifi control, but no

RED Scarlet... hype engine
Letus Ultimate... hype engine

Agreed. But at that price point, I wonder if I would just be better off using the Ultimate with the HVX I already have. For me spending $5k to get 1/2 of a stop on the 170, doesn't quite seem worth it, as I already have the HVX paid off, and it is making good money for me. But if I were to spend $3k more and get the HPX500 body, I could raise my camera rental rates to cover the cost as well as get a "faster" camera with a larger chip set .... But then if I'm just going to get the scarlet when it comes out, will I be able to recoup the cost of the HPX500.....

One thing NAB is horrible for is trying to make decisions .....
