Pain in the ass msg on Sony A7

- I set the video format to NTSC so I can shoot 24p and EVERYTIME I turn on the camera I get a "Running on NTSC" message, which I've read is normal on the Sony website (this is just insane!). Can anyone confirm that there is no way around this?

Wait, you can select NTSC or PAL on these cameras? I thought it was like with the NEX bodies: if you buy the PAL model you get 25p and 50p, if you buy the NTSC model you get 24p and 60p, and if you want all four then you have to buy both cameras. When did Sony change this (stupid) thing?

If I'm not mistaken I was always able to choose between NTSC and PAL since the nex5n...I only got the pain in the ass msg only with the A7 though

So, I checked it thoroughly, and my 5N doesn't have that option. Which is consistent with what I read in the manuals: the a6000 manual talks about this option, the a7/a7r manual talks about that option, the 5N manual doesn't mention it.

And still...

If I follow exactly what's stated in the manuals, only the PAL cameras are world cameras, the US versions won't have 25p or 50p options. Which is really weird.

a7/a7r manual
PAL/NTSC Selector (only for 1080 50i compatible models): By changing the TV format of the device, shooting in a different movie format is possible.

a6000 manual
PAL/NTSC Selector*: By changing the TV format of the device, shooting in a different movie format is possible.

* Only for 1080 50i compatible models. If you switch this selector, it will be required to format the memory card in the setting compatible with the PAL or NTSC system respectively. Also, note that it may not be possible to play back movies recorded with the NTSC system on a PAL system TV.

You use PAL in Brazil, right? I'm in Spain but I bought my 5N in the US in order to get the frame rates I need (24p and 60p). I wonder if I should buy the (slightly more expensive) European version this time (I preordered the a7s)

I might be wrong regarding the NEX5N. I'm in Brazil but I've bought the Sony A7 from abroad.

I have a hong kong (pal by default) a7r. I can switch to ntsc but at the penalty of said annoying "reminder" at bootup every fing time. No way to disable it yet.

This and the redundant double press for mf assist are the two things easily fixed in firmware but not yet.

“We have been told that there are actually three variants of the a7S available: codenamed AP2, E38 and KR2. Which model you get depends on where in the world you are. The AP2 version is the only one that is PAL/NTSC switchable. With the AP2 model it will record, 25p, 50p and 100p. In NTSC mode the camera will do 24p, 30p. 60p and 120p.”
