P2Viewer and P2CMS ISSUE in Windows Vista...

AN OPEN LETTER TO PANASONIC regarding P2Viewer and P2CMS applications not functioning in Windows Vista 32 or 64 systems.

The P2Viewer and P2CMS applications are vital programs to the P2 Workflow. As of the time of this letter, neither application functions in Windows Vista OS.

P2Viewer in Vista 32 and 64

P2 Drivers will install and P2Viewer will install, however won't open. When attempting to open the application, the following error is returned:

"The required audio hardware cannot be found on your computer." "OK" is the only option. P2Viewer never launches.

P2CMS in Vista 32 and 64

P2 Drivers will install, but P2CMS has no functionality in Windows Vista OS.

Please reply to this post that Windows Vista support for these two applications is important to your continued use of P2 moving forward.

Please help me and our growing roster of Windows Vista users!

Just a note. This isn't to be taken as a rant. However, I have been a huge proponent of P2 since it first hit the market. If I've completely missed the boat on this issue, please post your workaround so that we can get these applications running for our clients.

To resolve this issue, I pulled the trigger on a used Dell laptop running XP to the tune of $400 today and put it on a long-term loan for our client.

Totally unacceptable, but the client is more important to me than being right about this huge gap in Panasonic's support for their flagship video format.

Actually, the Dell laptop running only P2Viewer for our clients is something I'll be bringing on all subsequent shoots as a loaner for viewing dailies. A good result from a crappy Panasonic-induced challenge.

I'm using a Lenovo ThinkPad R61 (15.4 screen) and Windows Vista.

I just loaded the P2 Viewer and it seems to be working with no errors at all. I can view video and hear audio.

P2CMS will not install. According to the Panasonic site it is not available for Vista.

Does Panasonic have a time line for P2CMS working with Vista?

I'm hoping I don't have to do an XP conversion.

The P2 viewer will not work on 2 of my vista computers. I have downloaded the one that says it works with vista. On one system I get the same audio hardware error and on the other one nothing, it won't start up.

I guess you get what you pay for.

Neither the P2 Viewer nor the P2CMS work with my Lenovo Laptop and Vista.

They do both work with my XP Pro-based desktop.

I use a HVX 200 pal land .firestore 100 dvcpro hd.vista laptop. and Adobe CS3.
and the only thing that I had a problem with was I could not see my footage
in my laptop because P2 VIEWER would not open up on my vista .

This is the only way I could got this problem.

Download a piece of software called P2 FORGE. you can get a 30 day trial period with it first. But one thing you must do is...download the P2 viewer onto your laptop also. because p2 forge needs the dvcpro codec that comes with the p2 viewer. then you can shove P2 VIEWER into the back ground never to be seen again. I must say this is a fantastic piece of software and it does just about everything ...

It seems Vista Business is the only Vista version supported...any body have a handle on why just the business version, and what the business version has that makes the difference?
