P2CMS newbie questions

Trying to get this workflow down but having some odd happenings. When I use either export or ingest, the LASTCLIP.TXT file is not being carried over. I downloaded Shotput and it does carry over the LASTCLIP.TXT file. Am I missing something in this process? I keep reading that all files need to be in place to avoid issues like lost footage, and not to just copy/paste them but rather use P2CMS or Shotput. So do I copy/paste the LASTCLIP.TXT file since P2CMS isn't pulling it over??

Another basic question. I'm on a Dell laptop running XP. I've read posts about Mac users making a disc image of the card as a first step. should I be doing this? I've read other posts that say nothing of that process but rather jump straight to importing off the card. Which is the proper, safe workflow?

Thanks, I'm sure I'll have other questions soon.

I don't make Disk Images...that doesn't verify the data. ShotPut P2 and Shotput P2 Pro do this, and this is VERY valuable. I too am really confused my P2CMS and avoid it. Shotput P2 automates the process in a very intuitive way, and checks to make sure everything is all right. Perfect.

I'm considering using ShotPut P2 and I have a question:

Does it have logging capabilities?

My goal is to make a simple log that I can print out a sequential list of the shots with simple notes and perhaps a thumbnail. I know P2CMS will do this but I'm not happy with the software and hoping that ShotPut will do it.

Lastly, if I offload using ShotPut I'll still be able to view the files within P2CMS, correct? If this works I could log within P2CMS.

If you have any thoughts consideringother options I'd like to hear them.

FYI, I'm using WinXP.

Thanks in advance.

A couple more questions re: my post above:

Can you edit metadata on an existing clip using ShotPut?
Can you attach .txt files to P2 clips?

iBor's questions are the next piece I'm needing to figure out. Any additional advice from those in the know is greatly appreciated!

Here's a reply I got from Dan at Imagine Products:

"Thanks for your interest Rob.

ShotPut is a simple copy utility to ensure the integrity of your media. It
is not a logger and there is no demo, but there is a pdf with screen shots
available.

To log and print P2 clips you need P2 Log Pro. There is a demo, it opens the
first clip of a P2 volume.

I will be downloading Shotput P2 in the coming days. It seems as though P2 Log Pro is only for Mac. I have a message in to Dan asking about a Windows version.

I'll post info as I get it.

Their version for Windows is TEP. You'll see it at the top of the list on the windows side of the website. The cheapest version is $300. My budget is blown after buying the camera, some odds and ends, and Shotput. I'm going to have to work with the free P2CMS software and see what I can do with that!
