P2cms needs upgrading

I work a lot with P2 cameras as an AC and DIT/Data wrangler I use P2CMS most of the time. I think that the program has been out enough time now for an upgrade but a significant one not just a 0.001 of a version.

I think it needs the following:

1) The option to choose multiple simultaneous destination folders for copying cards to several different folders at the same time.

2) The option to select a verification process at the end of the copying process that verifies the integrity of the copied data.

3) The option to place several folders in a que for verification checks.

4) The option to select the directory structure in to which the files will be copied i.e one P2 card with multiple clips inside its content folder or as it is now each clip into an individual content folder.

5) Production information tabs out of which the details get recorded into a text file or metadata. Then copied with the data into the destination folders.

6) A grammar and spelling check on all buttons and menus...

6) I also think that such a useful application can use a design overhaul to add to its professional appearance, this is not as important as the other suggestions but would be nice.

I'm not a programmer and don't know what this demands from a software design point of view. But I find a need for these changes all the time and feel as if it is applications like these volunteered to us by Panasonic that will maintain the professional outlook of the P2 work flow. Especially with all the changes and developments happening in the world of solid state/ hi res video cameras.

Dose any body else agree?

Would really like to hear what Panasonic have to say about this.

Thanks for that though I knew about Shotput. In regards to P2CMS all be it a free download it would still be hugely helpful if Panasonic them selves would maintain the development of P2CMS as a downloadable product. The changes I am suggesting would make significant improvements to the available workflow and beyond a doubt attract more users by adding to the professional handling/feel of it. I'm hoping that Panasonic could do this as other solid state camera manufacturers... don't offer such a helpful application as a free download. This would definitely be in Panasonic's and ours the end user's best interests.

Hi, Coldpizza.....

I agree with you that Panasonic really SHOULD be maintaining and extending P2CMS. On the other hand I get the sneaky suspicion that P2CMS was/is a rushed product that was needed to fulfill a specific role which has now passed. At the very least I believe that Panny would be quite happy to palm P2CMS type applications onto third party developers.

Panny is a huge company that equally has huge resource yet it doesn't take much poking around P2CMS to wonder how the application ever saw the light of day with such horrendous spelling mistakes not to mention the amusing 'Japanese English' translations. It has had updates but these glaring errors haven't been addressed..... speaks volumes really!

I LOVE P2CMS but I don't hold out much hope for it ever evolving into anything more than it presently is under Panny's stewardship :(

Indy.....

Your rite Indigo I didn't think P2CMS was anything but a little cover up for Panasonic and realised all to well that it was a rushed little program made to fulfil a temporary purpose. Still I thought it wouldn't hurt to treat it seriously and comment about it with hopes of improvement. Constructive feedback never goes waisted in my opinion...

For offloading P2 content for all format in use with hvx200 which would you recommend? (ShotPut application for mac) P2Log Pro or ShotPut Pro?

And do you see any problem with keeping both applications loaded on your mac to be an issue? P2CMS and ShotPut application?

I'd go with Shotput Pro and in general you can use it in place of P2CMS, however having both on your hard drive shouldn't be an issue.

There are similar off-load programs that have trial periods...I bought Shotput (no trial) and it does not format the p2 card correctly after the off-load. I was told my p2 card was the probable culprit. Uh huh.....
Go with a trial version of anything first...Make sure it does what it is advertised as doing.

I just formatted the card with Shotput P2 and it worked fine. Wonder what your issue was.

I wonder too. I know that formatting was an issue with the Mac version at one point and was declared fixed.

Hey, maybe my new 200a came with a "bad" 16 gig p2 card as was suggested. Works perfectly in all respects with the camera and Panasonic software.
I know what Panasonic will say if I tell them it has a problem with third party software.
While I'm not saying shotput is "bad" software, the website forum did remove my last post detailing my problem with its latest version...that crossed a line
imho.
My lesson learned is with under $50 software (credit card companies set that as a threshold for disputes) a trial version will tell you if the product works for you, and there are such P2 products out there.
