P2

I'm sure this has been addressed (couldn't find any info though) and it is an extremely basic question but I am new to this, sorry......

do you need to get a P2 drive in order to transfer the footage to your computer or can you plug the camera into your camera via firewire and transfer it?

thanks.

You can transfer the p2 card contents to PC and Mac using USB and/or firewire connection directly from the camcorder

Do not need anything else

You don't need a specialized p2 drive. P2 uses any laptop pcmcia slot, you can also buy a pci to pcmcia adapter for your desktop.

Avoid the usb to pcmcia adapter unless you have to as usb is cpu intensive.

Tom, the problem of course in using your camera as a card reader is the limit of material on the card(s) before you must stop shooting and transfer. Many people either use the battery powered P2 Store or a G4 laptop with a FireWire hard disk for the transfer tasks.

how do you mount the p2 card through the firewire connection to the desktop? nothing seems to be happening when I switch over to mcr mode with the firewire connection to my mac book pro.

you also need to make sure in Camera Menu in 9. OTHER FUNCTIONS>PC MODE is set to 1394 Device, default i think is USB. Hope that helps.

i think it works this way: it is set to firewire if you are trying to connect a pc via usb (like mine was) or if you are trying to connect via firewire to your mac it will be set to USB.
