P2 Workflow.. copying content of 2 cards

Hi there,

I am having problems working with p2 cards. I am using a cardreader to get the content of the P2 into a Macbook Pro. This works great. Then I copy the content onto a external harddrive. The idea is to copy all to the footage of the day onto this ext. HD. At the end of the day the files from the external harddrive get imported into the latest version of FCP on the editing Suite with Raid System..

This works all great with one Card.

BUT. if the 2nd P2 Card ist full and I want to copy it to the MacBook I get the Message that the content can´t be copied because it already exists on HD of the Powerbook.

I tried renaming ( copy from the 1st P2 Card ) the existing Folder on the harddrive in order to copy the content of the second card. Now the copying of the second P2 onto the Macbook worked, but now final cut did not recognize the Folder with the changed name.

I formatet the Cards in the cam and did it again with new footage.. Alsways get the problem that I can only copy the content of one card.

Anybody any Idea? How should this look like if everything is working well.

Thanks for your help..

Create a destination folder for each of the P2 cards (like CARD1, CARD2 etc.) and copy the P2 card contents into them. That means copying the LASTCLIP.TXT file and CONTENTS folder into the CARD1, CARD2 etc. folder.

If you rename anything that was on the P2 card, you will break the import.

Hi THoff,

hey, thanks so much for you fast answer...
it´s kinda funny because we had all kinds of people working on this problem. haha
All specialists.. Now it turned out that easy..

Another option would be to use P2 Genie, it streamlines to process of offloading the P2 cards. I've been using the PC version for about a year, and it helps alot when you work by yourself (which I usually do).

The only caveat is that there have been reports of problems when formatting 16GB P2 cards using P2 Genie -- the camera doesn't seem to like the way it is done and refuses to recognize the cards. I don't have a 16GB P2 card to test it, but you should know about it. If you have 8GB cards, I would suggest you check out the program.

Thanks again, the genie tool looks like it might help alot. But right now we going without it. We just figured out that not only was there a problem with the file structure, but we found out that the external Harddrive we were using had some really bad errors and was just going to die. So with a new HD and diferent folders everything works just perfectly.
