P2 viewer DV Rack and focus

1. P2 viewer. Once I have downloaded the P2 files on the laptop and removed the p2 card, is it then possible to view the files with the P2 viewer (NLE software not installed yet).

2. Converting files for Adobe Premiere. I just read on the DV Rack site that they are having trouble with the audio files staying in sync. This seems to rule out DV Rack until the issue is fixed. What alternative is best to convert files to something Premiere will read?

3. Workflow. After the P2 card is full I copy/paste contents to folder on my laptop. I do not have my new system so I cannot be sure the files are workable but they are viewable in P2 Viewer. I will copy files to external hardrive. I assume I will then covert using something lilke Cineform or Raylight ( It really sounded like DV Rack was the answer). Do you just take the video folder and drag to software?

4. Focus. I shot today and while the footage was beautiful keeping focus on a moving subject was disappointing. I changed setting to feet but not sure that was best. Any tips on how to keep focus in a moving situation? Will a larger apeture help?

Thanks

A smaller aperture (larger F/T Stop number) will give you greater depth of field and will reduce the possibility of an object falling outside of the critical focus point.

But keep in mind that smaller=better only works to a certain point with 1/3" HD camcorders. Too small and your aperture actually becomes a problem and causes everything to get blurry and out of focus. You really don't want to stop down past f/8.0, any smaller than that and diffraction starts to become an issue.

Thanks Barry. I haven't been able to view the footage shot except on a laptop with P2 viewfinder. It seems slightly out of focus in areas. I have been practicing this morning using the focus assist. Are there charts that show the depth of field at different apeture settings?

Also, how long does it typically take Panasonic to ship your book?

My workflow ( 3 short features made last month):

1. DVrack 2.0 (now I have the retail version instead of beta) on HP pavilion zv6000 laptop
2. CineForm's Aspect HD v 4.2 to convert MXF to .AVI (super!!!)
3. Premiere pro 2.0 to edit (CC with AspectHD, FX with Magic Bullet)
4. Cineform to export to .avi (HD or SD)
5. Encore 2.0 to make DVDs 24p, 16:9

DV Rack doesn't create MXF files, it creates AVI or QT files. What do you need CineForm for?
