P2 via firewire to iMac?

someday

oops, wrong directory, it was meant to be in the HVX200 sorry.

Hi, this is my first post,
i have to make a production next week with the HVX200 and 2 P2 cards.
I have an iBook and my question is:
Once the P2 are filled, can i dump the data from the camera via firewire from the P2 to the iMac without having to use a P2 USB adapter?
Do i need a specific software or hardware?
Does it take much time?
Thanks a lot.

Yes you can do exactly that. Just go into the "other functions" and make sure that the pc mode setting is set to "1394 DEVICE".

Then on the iBook you'll have to install the P2 Driver from your CD.

Then use the mode switch to put the HVX in PC/DUB mode, and it'll show up on your desktop as an external hard disk. You can copy the contents of the P2 cards from there onto your internal (or other external) hard disk.

I will receive the camera for 2 days, and if the CD with the OS X driver is missing is there some place where i can download it?
Thanks

I'd like an answer to that too as I bought mine a month ago and my driver has not yet been installed, but could be out of date?

Sorry someday, hope you don't mind me hijacking your post, but I need the same questions answering too.

If I could add another question; how can you view P2 clips on the iBook, i there a Mac viewer available that will allow viewing of 720p/25p PAL?

Remember another little subtlety about putting the camera into PC/DUB mode to mount on your Mac. You must turn the thumbnails off prior to holding the button on the back of the camera for a couple of seconds. If the thumbnails are on, camera will not switch to PC/DUB mode.

If you are using the HVX as a !EEE1398 device to copy P2 media to a harddrive (rather than using the card slot), why do you need to install the P2 Drivers? I'm dumping footage right this minute onto an external HD through a G5 without P2 drivers and it works just fine.

Even more interesting!
So i could shoot into the P2, connect the camera to che iMac via Firewire 400 (the standard one) and then should i dump from the camera or copy with the Mac's Finder?

Can't you dump to firewire external hard drive attached to iBook? I mean with no P2 drivers?

Somebody should write a book on the HVX200 workflow options todate. I bought my HVX200 over a month ago and so far I have not shot a frame (appart from to tape in SD) because it's just too confusing; what to buy. Too many options and they all seem to be very twitchy and unreliable. Scary stuff. At least you know where you are with tape.

So, does anyone know of a book/site that has decent tutorials on the most reliable workflows for P2?

Should I be scared, the P2 thing is simply starting to bother me. I'm holding on by the skin of my finger nails here. I read about Firestore being twitchy, I read about P2 cards causing corrupt and unusable files, I read about Laptops not being compatible...

Is there a totally reliable system with P2 that works at least as good as tape? I still don't know which way to go with the workflow. By the time I decide P2 technology will have been replaced by something even more confusing ;)

Help!

Click on the downloads link for the driver. Hit refresh if in Safari and it doesn't appear.

Once mounted in the PC mode, you can copy the p2 card icon to any volume, not just the desktop.

There is a bunch of information out there and here.

It isn't scary unless that is your attitude about it.

Barry Green is writing a book, and Gary Adcock has a DVD out the gives you the basics about menus.

Wealth of information here as well.

You learn by doing. Give it a try.
