So I have now somehow killed 2 duel adapter.. I hate the way they hang off the system anyhow.. So I'm consider pickup up a G4 Powerbook to do my transfers instead of buying another duel adapter..

Anyone have any info/test on transfer speeds when using a G4 powerbook?

My guess is that they should be just as fast as any other solution?

Or recommend a cheap PC laptop, but I'd rather stay mac so I can use the G4 for other stuff as well...

Also would consider putting a 500GB IDE internal as I've done with my macbook pro.. Anyone have any experience/speed info on a setup like that?

Tx..

Joe,

I use a PowerBook on-location all the time. Transfer speeds are around 2GBs per minute when using the PCMCIA card slot, an external FireWire800 hard drive, and ShotPut Pro software.

Happy shooting,
Andrew

I killed, or rather Duel left me holding the smoking gun, two adapters as well before I got an old PB.

I use Shotput Pro and get about 5 minutes for offloading an 8gb card using FW400.

Just was reading about shortput pro... I ended up buying ANOTHER duel adapter because I didnt feel like dealing with another system... they really need to redesign the cable, I'm pretty sure the point of failure is the cable to expresscard..

Sounds like shortput pro makes transfers faster... Do you ever copy to multiple drives at once.. What kind of speed hit do you see?
