So now the new laptops on its way with enough grunt to hopefully handle afew layers of realtime p2/mxf footage ,useing Canopus Edius broadcast version 4.01
So can people here give any tips before I get in a mess with contents folders all over the place.
I have p2 genie and p2 viewer installed as well.
I also have Cineforms aspect hd with all the adobe pro suite on this laptop for when i want to do what I cant do in Edius.
I shant always be tethered to the laptop and need help in the best otg storage for now as the cineporter is ordered but not available yet?
Any tips with this windows based laptop welcome.
I know the laptop will take the p2 card straight into its slot aswell as usb/firewire.
Many thanks in advance

In all seriousness, I'd grab a pot of coffee and sit down here at this board for a good while and run through a lot of the threads. Likely a lot of good tips and tricks can be extracted that way. Some trouble shooting stuff by people that are not to active, so might not see your posting, is likely burried in the older postings. Not exactly a concise answer I know, but it is a forum after all, so for that kind of broad information you need to do a broad search/read through.

As for direct tips, well back up your MXF files as if your life depended on it. Figure that out first and foremost. Are you going to backup to DVD-R's, to cheap hard drives that you will put into storage once they fill up, to some form of tape? All are viable solutions, but you should have that game plan decided ahead of time. If you have solid backups, problems down the road can be addressed. If your 'masters' are not sound then why bother with anything else? Depends how much you're going to be shooting, but I like DVD-Rs for the project I'm currently working on, but we don't shoot that much. For a heavier load I think I'd look to hard drives that I could keep swapping out of a rack and putting into long term storage as they filled.

cheers.
