P2 to computer headaches

For reference this was a laptop I use for field offloading. What I do remember was downloading as I had done many times in the past and it simply didnt work.

OH - now I do. I remembered. I worked out that there was a a problem with the admin permissions, caused by something when it was reinstalled. So whenever I installed I could see them on there but they didnt work properly. A complete resinstall fixed it.

To find that issue took a week of searching - save yourself the time - just reinstall if you can.

Is the Firewire primarily for use with a Mac?
Yes. Read the manual and you'll see that it specifically says that firewire device mode is guaranteed to work on the Mac, but is *not guaranteed* to work on Windows. On the other hand, USB is guaranteed to work on Windows.

I can't really say this clearly and plainly enough -- don't use it. Put the port in USB Device mode and use USB. Period, end stop, no two ways around it. If you're on a Windows system, do not do not do not use 1394 device mode.

Shadowfever, there's really nothing to this whole process. Install P2 Viewer -- not the P2 Store Manager, not anything like it, just the P2 Viewer. Put your camera into USB Device mode in the "other functions->PC MODE" menu. Plug it in via USB. That's it. P2 Viewer will now be able to see and play the content on the cards in the camera.

Shadowflower, thank you very much for your post. I have been driven nuts by this same problem. I have downloaded the P2 Viewer, I have set up the HPX 171 as already advised and installed the P2 drivers. I have checked that they have been installed in the locations indicated in the manual. BUT..the drivers disappear when the HPX is no longer connected. I have spoken today to Panasonic adviser and he said that he had not come across the problem before. I have tried downloading the P2 drivers (maybe the CD was at fault): no luck. I have tried installing on a Wndows 7 32 bit computer (the first is Windows 7 64 bit): same problem. Any idea?
