P2 Store Offload

Replicant

Hi. it's great how everyone has been sharing their workflow for the hvx. i'm still waiting for my hvx and i'm passing the time by figuring out possible workflows.

i have a few questions, though...

WIll the P2 Store offload to a standalone harddrive (USB/Firewire)?
without the aid of a laptop, i mean. In other words, once the 60 GB P2 Store fills up, can you dump that data onto a waiting harddrive (in some sort of enclosure)?

if you're on the set without a laptop and just the P2 store, how are you able to playback material? if, say, a client wants to review a take that has already been transferred to the P2 store. can the P2 store playback footage/clips?

thanks!

Check out the article about the P2 Store here: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=54299

It should answer most of your questions.

Another (and cheaper) option would be to have a laptop with a cardbus slot and then use Anders' P2 Genie: http://p2genie.andersholck.com

Playing the MXF files from the HVX would require the P2 Viewer, which comes as a Windows-only app. HD Log would be the choice for Mac - however it's quite expensive. http://www.abelcine.com/store/product.php?productid=1000024

thanks for the info tlorenzo.

so i guess the p2 CAN'T offload without a laptop.

however, the p2 "playback" feature wasn;t really addressed.

to jarred and anyone else using the p2 workflow, is there a way to route the material back to the hvx and onto a client monitor? for the occsional review?

i'm thinking this would be critical if you need to suddenly check continuity from a shot two p2s back. or maybe if a client comes in late and wants to watch everything you've shot so so far...

am i making sense? :)

any ideas?

thanks!

The only way to view footage from the P2 store is to have it connected to a pc laptop and use the P2 Viewer that ships with the camera to access the footage. Otherwise you would have to bring the footage into a NLE to view it once you've moved it off the cards.

Or use HD Log if you're on a Mac and you can bring up *any* clip and play then for your customer, whether still in MXF format or saved as QT.
