P2 - Spanned Clips - Question

Hello

I am working with the P2 cards and when I import my card onto my hard drive there are let's say 5 clips in the clip folder. BUT when I log and transfer these files into Final Cut Pro there 3 files showing up but 2 clips are spanned.

Is that because those 2 clips are to long or to large?

I even put the card back into the camera and it reveled that there were 3 clips...thus reinforcing what Final Cut registered.

If anybody can shed light on this I will be forever greatful!!

Thank YOU!
Cristina

Someone may correct me on this but here goes... If while recording you fill a card and the camera goes onto the next card then the clip being recorded at the time will be a 'spanned' clip.

Final Cut Pro or what ever software you use will 'stitch' the clips back together. The stitching will only occur if FCP can see both cards at the same time i.e. if you connect the camera with both cards inserted etc.

The cards are formatted as FAT 32 and traditionally this system had a 4 GB file size limit. So if you record a long clip that goes over the limit the clip will be spanned, even if you only have one card in the camera. I'm not 100% sure about this so hopefully someone will put me right. However, I have had spanned clips on just one card.
