P2 offloading onto G4 laptop problem

when I put the P2 card into the pcmcia slot, a little card icon appears on the top toolbar, and when I click on it, I only get the option of powering off the card. Unknown Vendor, and Mass Storage Controller are there, but are grayed out. Anyone ever had this problem?
