P2 import problem

Hi

I am trying to solve a problem with some P2 media I am trying to import from external hard drive to FCP 5.1.2.

I have 21 reels of it - all labeled in a similar way - but only one (of the 21) isn't importing and gives me the following warning (from FCP).

"name of my folder/ reel" has invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches the supported media.

I suppose it has something to do with my folder/ directory not matching the contents (for some reason) but how can I correct this?

Thanks

Hello

Yes I do have it. Everything seems to be in order except that I get that error reading. Having trouble even finding a useful defintion of "invalid directory structure." even talking with FCP people at Apple Care - they didn't even know of this error. I think for some reason FCP believes the contents are in the wrong folder??? But I'm not sure. All I can say is that I thought this problem was going to be rather simple to solve - since everything seems in order - but its proving to be very deceptive. Its frustrating because everything seems to be there - but I cannot get it to import - so its like seeing something in a store window you really want to have but you can't find the entrance.

I would buy P2 Log Pro - but I don't know that it would be helpful in solving this issue.

I shlould mention that this only happened to one reel/ P2 card - and that the other 20 were ok and imported fine.

Look at the contents of that folder -- it should have a folder named CONTENTS and a LASTCLIP.TXT file, and then that CONTENTS folder should have six directories within it (CLIP, ICON, VIDEO, AUDIO, VOICE, and PROXY). Also, make sure you haven't changed the name of the CONTENTS folder, and that you haven't added any characters to the name of the folder it's within (like $ or # or anything like that).

All these things seem to be in order - i.e. CONTENTS folder has the 6 directories, inside them are the items that need to be there. LASTCLIP.TXT file is present.

However these files do have a history and have made an odd journey.

Someone was trying to transfer the folder (containing CONTENTS and LASTCLIP.txt) and somehow they ended up in trash. Somehow the CONTENTS and LASTCLIP were separated - from their folder while in the trash. They were rescued, put back together - outside the trash environment, on an external hard drive.

Now everything seems in order, but they won't import.

So I think something (their folder perhaps) changed while they made their jouney to the trash and back. The folder they (CONTENTS and LASTCLIP) were in was inside the trash as well and was brought back out. Everything was put back to how it was.

So now that it is changed back to what it originally was shouldn't it work?

And if not, could it be fixed?

Thanks again!

Hello

I discovered the problem: an extra space (spacebar character) at the end of the S of CONTENTS. It was invisible to the eye but I deleted it and viola - import success!

Thanks for your help.

Wow, that was tricky to find, but glad you caught it.

As a reminder, one should NEVER re-name the CONTENTS folder. It has to be named "CONTENTS" in order for it to be recognized by the importer.
