P2 import into wrong Final Cut setup

Hey all,

I made the mistake of importing the P2 cards into FCP under the DV PAL setup, when I should have used the HDV 720p 25 setup to obtain full resolution. (roblem is I've already been editing for a week and don't want to start over)

Anyone know if I can somehow link the DV sequence to the HDV setup without having to re-import everything and re-edit?

Thanks.
James

Cam shoots DVCProHD.

You have mentioned in the same post DV PAL, and HDV.

And linking the DV sequence to a HDV setup.

Help me out by clarifying what setups for DVCProHD, not HDV or DV you have used.

Under "Easy Setup" in FCP 5 you can choose to between DV-Pal, DV-NTSC, DVCPRO 1080i50, HDV 720p 25, and about 15 other formats.

I started my project under the "DV-Pal" setup, meaning all my MXF files converted to DV-Pal and then I started editing. But now I need to figure out if I can convert the files in my sequence back to their original (720p25) in a DVCPRO or HDV setup without having to start over...

Couple of things.

1st the hvx doesn't shoot hdv- Your would be one of the DVCPro-HD or DVC-Pro formats ie 1080 24pa or 720 24pn etc.

2nd- When you important from p2 you simply import the footage. Unlike tape the footage is imported as shot and then you edit.

You only need to have the correct format selected for you sequence.

So what you can do is go to your original sequence and select all and then copy the time line. Make a new sequence with the correct settings from what ever you shot on the hvx. Then simply paste the copied files from the original and there you go.

It's important to accurately detail what you have done. Because the cam doesn't shoot any HDV formats, why mention them?

Have you tried changing your sequence settings to the correct one or copy/pasting the existing sequence into a new sequence that reflects what you shot.
