P2 format on a MBP

I was just wondering if Final Cut will recognlize the P2 format on the Mac Book Pros as they are now using the Intel chip? My G5 is 1 generation before the Intel chip and it wont recognize the files on the P2 at all (unless I am not shooting at the full quality) I was told this was because my Mac was not Intel based and that it was not a quad core.

I understand the Intel based portion of the statement as that is a different chipset than what I was using but I am not sure about the Quad Core.....

So I guess what I am asking is: Is there anyone using the Mac Book Pro with the intel dual core and using the full quality available from the P2 cards?

Quad-core doesn't have anything to do with it. But it's possible that FCP version 5.1.4 (which supports P2) and later won't run on a G5; not sure about that. Pretty sure you need an Intel-based Mac for FCP 6.

i have the last g5 for work and running fcp 5.1 and it reads my p2 cards fine. i also have macbook pro running fcp 6, and it reads cards just the same.

and your thread title may confuse some becuase there is a "p2 formatter" application, that comes packaged with the p2 drivers. but for some reason mine only works about 1 out of 3 times... so thats what i thought this thread was about.

I am running FCP 6.0.4 on a dual-G5 Mac tower. You might need an Intel based laptop for FCP 6, but it runs just fine on the dual-G5 desktops.

Intel or PPC doesn't have anything to do with p2 formats. The version of FCP you are running is the determining factor.

HVX200 footage could be imported into 5.0.4 which was a PPC version. 5.1.4 works with the HVX200 on both PPC and Intel. The latest version is FCS2.
