P2 Firewire Adapter

FW800 is backward compatible with FW400, which many more PC users have than FW800... and should still be faster than USB2. So I think FW800 is a reasonable approach on both sides of the fence...

especially as we're talking about the video market, where FW is the standard for transfer from camcorders.

It stopped because Panasonic was releasing bigger and faster p2 cards beyond 8 GBs.

At NAB, the writing was on the wall I believe. A reader, however, isn't the same as a p2 acquisition and recoding device.

Chistian,
while you guys are at it: an adapter would be great and if it works you´ll probably sell a lot - but what I really would like to see would be a 400€ P2 store alternative product with interchangable laptop drives :cheesy::2vrolijk_08:

we need this

we need this

The FW adapter to PC would be great:
You could use any PC to offload.
No need to take laptop along.
(unbelievable there is no such adapter for a reasonable price)

How about a USB2 - PCMCIA adapter, too?
(while you are at it)

I would buy both.

sorry for the ignorance, but what do you guys mean by adapter?

I just bought a PCI to PC Card Pro from SIIG for $39. and installed it in my PC machine, and now I'm able to offload from my machine. No need for a laptop.
At $39 each, I can buy for 3 machines and pay about the same as the Other Adapter.

Best of all, it is super fast.

You do need a PCI slot open though. :)

We're talking about a firewire to PC CardBus reader that supports 32-bit PCI bridge and will work on any laptop or desktop that has firewire.

Not internal.

Honestly, i cant see where this adapter would see ALOT of people buying it in todays computer world ( OTHER than for P2 acquisition of course)

Kinda of wondering whether this project has reached any critical mass.

Can your company make one, or is it not possible?

these adapters are driving me crazy.. anyone made one that works yet? Offical word from Duel "4 in 10 people running leopard are successful running a duel adapter"

I couldn't get my Dual to ever work with my 1st issue Macbook Pro. Then I recently updated to Leopard and lo and behold - damn thing works. And works well.
