P2-editing on regular macbook?

hi all,

i'm thinking about purchasing the hpx-170...but before i do, i want to see if i can edit on my current setup...

i have a regular macbook (not pro) with 2 gigs of ram, 2 GHz intel core duo, OS 10.4.11.
i've been editing with regular DV footage on FCP no problem.

but if i begin to edit with HD shot on the 170, will this be an issue? will i have to get a macbook pro with 4 gigs ram?

thanks for all advice.

that machine will be fine. i use an OLD 1ghz powerbook for dvcprohd in the field and it works just fine.

the only drawback is that your machine doesnt have a pcmcia slot, so youll have to take your camera out of commission while you transfer via firewire/usb

I have the same CPU with 4 gigs of RAM and I run PP CS3 for P2 editing all the time. It works very well as DVCproHD isn't that CPU intensive. I highly recommend running a good external HDD off your firewire port though. I was running a RAID OTC drive and it flew.

thanks for the replies...

one follow up question;

since i have a slightly older macbook (with core duo, not core 2 duo processor), i'm limited to 2 gigs of RAM...i can't upgrade to 4 gigs...will this be OK for a longer project?

thanks again for any advice.
