P2 E Series - In Stock Yet?

I don't think they've been released yet. Everyone I've asked about them has said "end of may." Which means May 31.

But yes, if anyone finds them any earlier, please let us all know!

I'm sure you'll find our sponsors like Spec-Comm will also come in and notify us when they have them in stock.

I would think your local dealer would be a better bet than just about any online store. Online stores are dealing with hundreds, even thousands of customers. Your local dealer might have available stock much sooner than an online dealer.

Our NY office received "E" series P2 Cards today.

16GB - available
32GB - we received a very limited amount and they went to pre orders and we still have a bunch of back orders to fill when the next batch comes in.
64GB - no ETA yet

I don't think they are up on our website yet but should be buy the end of the day.

Let's clear something up about the firmware for the E-Series cards. I'm quoting Steve Cooperman from Panasonic on this:

"The new E-Series P2 cards are designed to work with all P2 camcorder and recorder. A free, downloadable E-Series firmware upgrade is required for optimum performance.

Although not required for initial operation, the E-Series firmware upgrade ensures compatibility and optimum performance with all P2 equipment. Without the upgrade, P2 camcorder and recording equipment may experience error messages when recording over multiple P2 cards (spanned recording). These "REC Warning Error" messages may appear in the P2 camcorder's viewfinder or the P2 recorders LCD screen during spanned recording when utilizing the following modes:

a. INTERVAL REC MODE (in DV or DVCPRO)
b. LOOP REC MODE (in DV or DVCPRO)
c. NORMAL REC MODE (in DV or DVCPRO)
d. VARIABLE FRAME RATE RECORDING/NORMAL in the 12p or 15p VFR settings in DVCPRO HD 720/24pN, 720/25pN or 720/30pN (AG-HVX200/AG-HVX200A, AG-HPX170 AND AG-HPX500 models only)

The E-Series firmware upgrade is not required for the following camera models: VariCam 3700, VariCam 2700, AJ-HPX3000, AJ-SPX800, AJ-SPC700 and AJ-SPD850"

I hope this helps out.

Nice...any word from Spec Comm?

Ours are coming in early next week. They may already be sold but I do know that people drop out so contact us anyway because we are getting another shipment in shortly after.

Andrew - any chance you can do some testing to actually sort out the issues? Does a "Rec Warning" mean that recording stops at that point? And, just to be clear - no recording in DV/DVCPro should be expected to work properly?

Thanks,
Barry

Can we pay Abel or someone to do the firmware update to our cameras if we don't have a PC or access to a PC? I have a 170 and I don't feel comfortable begging one of my PC neighbors to let me install P2 Status Logger, a firmware updater and my HPX170 to their PC. If it was just to download something, fine, but to do this major firmware update? No, I would pay to have someone do it.

I am not a PC, I get lost immediately on them to even mount a USB driver or whatever weird thing that Windows makes you do that Macs just do automatically.

Abel? Anyone on Burbank or Glendale area doing this for P2 Mac owners?

Dan
