Anyone have experiance with the cam to HDD direct dub? I can get one card's worth in but on the next card dub it won't do it with out formating again and deleting existing data. Any ideas?

I've done it, with the 1394 Host. It's a little bit tricky (you have to follow a few steps), but works perfectly.

Another wrinkle. When I look at the HD on the mac get info it shows that it only has 3.7 g, it's a 250g. ?

When you backup to HD using the camera, it will create a partition for every P2 cards you backup. That means that your disk will mount on your computer as many small disks representing all the P2 cards you have backed up

I used the 200 to format the HD. I would expect to see as many disk icons as cards backed up but after the first dub the copy to disk item is grayed out and asking me to format the HD which will erase all info on it. The rest of the 230 gigs on the HD don't show up at all.

How many times can you download to the HDD; I heard it is capped out at like 10 or 15 times. Is this true? Anyone experience this?

bob, so after 15 transfers it has to reformat the drive again in order to continue more transfers?

Thanks for the info and the link to DVinfo but it doesn't help my problem. My 250 Gig HD gets formated by the HVX200 in 1394 host mode, xfer of one 4 gig card will take place but when I try to xfer another 4 gig card the cam asks to format again and deletes all info on the hard drive. Also, the hard drive shows only appro. a 5 gig size for the whole thing. In disk utility it shows the 250 G with two sub drives but they don't show up on the desktop. Anyone else have an idea?
