P2 Dropouts

Glitch while shooting...

Glitch while shooting...

I was shooting yesterday and today in 720PN mode at 24fps with a 250 shutter and once in awhile there seemed to be a glitch? when I payed back the clips in camera there it was a glitch? it looks like it lost a frame! All the clips with the glitch were unusable. I Tried ejecting cards, turning cam off etc. nothing works, what could be causing this?

Do I need a firmware update for my 3 4gig cards? I bought them back in March. I don't have a PC so I'm wondering HOW panasonic expects us Mac users to update firmware on P2 cards ??????

Anyone have any ideas......

thanks

I've been having this same problem with clips in the camera. It looks like a digital dropout. Looks like the same thing everybody else says their getting from importing to FCP. I've also had problems with my camera saying that one of my cards was an unreconizable card. Of course it would say this after the card already had some footage just shot on to it. The only way to even get the card to work was to reformat it and lose the clips I had on it. So this isn't a Mac or PC issue, its a camera or P2 cards issue.

Also I've tried repairing the clips with the dropout in them and the camera won't do anything with the clips.

I think you both should have a service tech look at your cameras. If this is happening in camera, then you should take it to Panasonic and have them take a look at it. It would be best if you cab do this repeatedly. If not be sure you take your example footage with you.

The only place that work on these cameras right now are Panasonic facilities. There is one on Cahuenga Blvd, West, just below Universal City.

It's the way you're importing it into FCP.

I'm between Macs right now so I can't give a definitive answer, but it's my understanding that FCP apparently has a bit of a bug regarding importing directly from the card, and that Apple recommends that you make a "disk image" of the card before importing the footage into FCP.

When it happened to my 1080 footage I straight copied the footage to a drive first. It had the same problem importing into FCP AND Avid.

When it happened to me it definitely WASN'T and FCP problem.

So Jimmy, if this is true then you should have your camera and card checked out.

But did you copy it to a drive using a Mac? Because the error happens then too.

To summarize: the glitch happens when copying or accessing P2 cards on a Mac. If you were to copy the card to a drive using a PC, and then import those cards on the Mac, it should be fine. But just the simple act of copying a card from the slot (or the camera) onto a hard drive, using a Mac, can cause "the glitch." It happens even without running FCP.

My dropouts were happening in camera. I would shoot the footage and then look at it in camera and see the dropouts. I've never had a problem transfering P2 media into FCP.

Jan, I also went by the Panasonic repair place by Universal and they did the firmware upgrade on the one card and took the other one which was freaking out to look at it. I'm hoping all that needs to be done is to upgrade the cards and that will be that. But its nice to know that the repair place is so close to where I live.
