P2 driver installing issues

Two problems:

Ok so I got the P2DC and plug it in my computer and the computer recognized it and all! but my first problem comes in from the P2 driver..

1- I done everything that the instructions has told me to do and when it tell me to restart my computer the p2 driver disappears and I have to find again in my download file and then it like a endless cycle. what am I doing wrong? I am using a mac book pro with snow leopard.

also I using the p2 driver disc that came with my P2DC and also try the one online on panasonic website...

2- (after I have copy all of my P2 info to a folder on my desktop.) When I click on the video folder in the p2 card it show up black and wont read any of the information.. maybe it comes from not installing the p2 card information..

I know this must be newbie questions, but I have try researching and have no luck! thanks for any help or advice!

Ok maybe I should change my last question to- What do I do with my MXF files once on my computer? I getting Adobe CS5 suite and its on its way to me..

Will quick time pro help me convert MXF to quicktime files?

ok, relax. lets start from the top and figure out whats happening...

Ok so I got the P2DC
just to be sure. do you mean the PCD2? as in the panasonic single-slot, USB P2 reader?

you say "recognized it and all" do you mean when you insert a P2 card that the card appears on your desktop?

your question 1:
----------------

it tell me to restart my computer the p2 driver disappears and I have to find again in my download file
the restart step is generally to engage the new software into your running computer. a "driver" isnt typically something that shows up on your desktop. that was the driver "installer"

what usually happens is you download a driver installer. open the installer. which may be an installer step-by-step window or a simple window instructing you to simply "drag ______ to your ______ folder and restart"

im thinking that what youre seeing "disappear" is the open installer window, which naturally wouldnt be open after a restart. and you WOULD have to go back to your download file to reopen it. but RELAX. it would seem from your second question that you have successfully installed what you need.

your question 2:
----------------

after I have copy all of my P2 info to a folder on my desktop.
if you were able to copy from a P2 card to your computer, apparently you have downloaded and installed the correct driver and you are on the right track. so your question number 1 from above isnt a problem. the driver installation step has been completed successfully.

the "problem" youre having now is a pretty common situation. you cant just click the clips in the video folder of a P2 card (or P2 card copied to your computer) and expect them to play like a typical movie. thats not how the P2 thing works.

here is what you have to do next:

i THINK the adobe CS5 level of premiere works directly with mxf files. if not, premiere has its own process of importing them. but i dont use premiere for this. so sadly, i cant help here...

if you were running final cut pro, you need to go through the log and transfer process. this converts the mxf files into something final cut pro (and your mac) can work with. so, in final cut pro, go to FILE. pull down to LOG AND TRANSFER. that will open the log and transfer window. then click the upper left icon (folder with a + sign). then navigate to your newly created folder that you copied the P2 card to.

-- EITHER WAY-- if you want to be able to play the clips in the VIDEO folder like you normally do in the mac finder, you need to download and install "P2CMS" from panasonic. it has a variety of handy uses but for me the primary one is the ability to play mxf files (the things in the VIDEO folder on a P2 card) by clicking them in the mac finder

no. thats the job of your editing software. it will either convert OR work natively with the mxf files...

Wgnz: Thank you so much for taking time to answer my questions! What a relief!
Yeah, I should be getting Adobe CS5 within this week! So i guess i will sit tight until get that and then work with that!

and yes I actual met PCDC to plug my P2 card into my computer.

and I will also look into downloading the P2CMS from the panasonic website..

Thanks again guy very helpful!!!

PremierePro CS3 ver 3.1 and above convert MXF by using the "Import" function. I'm presuming it works the same way on a Mac.

Let me get this straight, you can't watch P2 footage straight from a MXF file unless you import into a editing software like premiere pro or something..

Does Raylight work for only Final cut studio only?

You can definitely watch MXF files directly, by installing P2CMS or P2 Viewer.

If you've installed P2 Viewer, you can then view MXF files by double-clicking them and playing them in windows Media Player.

If you are on OSX, you can install Calibrated's MXF Importer software, which will let you view MXF files in the Quicktime Player, as well as directly import them into any Quicktime application.
