Is there any other P2 card for the HVX200, other than Panasonic's over-priced 8 little GB? I feel like I'm getting ripped off, here ! I mean, how Am I supposed to show HD? Do I need to drop 10 grand in P2 Cards? That's bull **** ! If I knew that I'd bought a different cam. How are you gentlement and Ladies getting by? I hear about getting a Macbook Pro and using that as hardrive. I also hear about this FS100. Anyway I cut it, I have to drop at least 3 Grand if I want to shoot HD. Not to mention the Hassle that it is using a Macbook or the FS100 when I am doing a shoot. Other people tell me about dubbing to miniDV what I record to the P2 cards. My God !!! I am really pissed now I find myself playing boo boo with this stupid camera. I mean, don't get me wrong, it is a great camera but the HD stuff is not really there. They got me on the one.

I hate to say it but you really should have done some research before you purchased your HVX. These are all issues that each of us hear must face...and accept as part of the workflow. Each of the options you mentioned are viable...the FS-100, MacBookPro or other computer that can accept PCMCIA.

Panasonic is the only place to get p2 cards.

For the rest of your comments.... (as politely as I can) you should do some more research. Plenty of people are getting by wonderfully with the p2 workflow. Maybe you should have done the research before dropping 6k on a camera though. But, if you want to sell, I am sure there are a lot of people who would love to by yours in the marketplace :)

hey, believe me, I am blaming myself for the problem. I understand that people are getting by with the P2 cards but I am just amazed at how much this cards cost. I mean, I am going to shoot all day, I need at least 6 8GB P2 cards. That's like 8 grand. Or I can get a Macbook for about 3 grand. Bu then I have the hassle of having to deal with the firewire cable being one the way. or I get the P2 card and the Macbook and keep dumping footage as I go and doing that all day long. I don't know. I shot my first feature 2 years ago on the DVX 100 and I loved that camera. I've been out of the game since so I figure the HVX200 was a great buy since I loved the first DVX. But I think I rather use the 100. If the cards were $200 a piece, I would kiss the camera and call it the greatest Dv cam in the world but at this prices, I can't help to feel like I have no choice. As much as I like to admit it, I love the HD footage on this camera. I just don't know how to prepared for my next feature, which is coming up.

Who shoots on 6 8GB cards? You can get by on 1 P2 Card, a laptop and a portable storage drive if all you are doing is shooting a feature. Very rare will you have a scene that is more than 5 to 10 minutes straight so you will always have time to dump your card to a laptop. Just keep dumping the footage to the storage drive and reuse one card.

Also, if you bought your HVX after 10/01/2006 Panasonic is giving away a free 8 GB card.

how do I claim this P2 card? I just got my cam about 2 weeks ago. And thanks for the comment. I think I'm just going to buy a Macbook and use it with 1 card.

Just look in the General HVX section for the thread titled HVX Rebate. If you purchased an HVX from an authorized dealer than you can get a free 8GB card.

No offence, but you must have a hell of a lot of money to drop 6K on a camera without doing the adequate research. I've been doing research for the past two months on this camera and all the cost that will go with it. After two months I am ready to buy.

In any case, I think you can get by on 1 8GB card and a laptop. Just look at it this way, you were always going to need a laptop to transfer and edit the footage anyway regardless of what camera you bought so that is not some added cost but something that was going to happen.

Gald to see you are giving it some thought. It's a little hard to make the mental switch from tape to P2. P2 cards are not the equivalent of tape and thats where most come unstuck. They are an intermediary format, playback and storage is done on hard drives. Its completely possible to bypass P2 altogether and shoot direct to disk if you choose. Top end hollywood movies are doing it right now with uncompressed footage. This way lies the future, one thing you will find is that it may cost more to shoot to P2 than to tape but what P2 adds to your production and production values is worth a lot more than the cost of a couple of P2 cards. No other camera on the market delivers what the HVX+P2 delivers.

Once you try the tapeless workflow (after thoroughly testing and re-testing) you really won't look back. Tape is definately on the way out, you are now on the bleeding edge as I've heard it referred, it may smart a bit at times but you are ahead of the game.

I just saved up enough money to purchase a P2 Card. I know theirs tons of posting on CinePorter and I'm going to start reading them but do any of you guys have an option on this as an alternative options to spending 1k-2k on P2 cards?

There is also the Focus Enhancements FS-100, and if your shooting style permits this, shooting directly to your computer's hard drive using appropriate software (depends on whether you have a PC or Mac).

....Just make sure you do the research this time. Don't take OUR words for it.:)

If you buy a macbook, you will NOT be able to download the footage and still shoot with the camera. The slot in the new macbooks is too small for the P2 cards. There will be an adapter on the market soon, or it may already be out. You will have to hook up the camera to the computer via firewire. If you are buying a laptop just for downloading on set you are better off picking up a used G4 powerbook as the PCMCIA slot will fit the P2 card and you can continue your shoot on a second card while downloading.

Be careful with the MacBook and FCP and DVCProHD footage.

Not supported by Apple.

And how you intend to get the p2 card into the MB?

you are saying a Macbook wouldn't work, right? Not a Mac Book Pro? correct? Or are you saying I'm better off with a G4 Powerbook and a couple of P2 cards? Talk to me !

RENTAL.
P2 cards rent cheap. 45 or so per day, 3 day weeks for a 8 gig.
lot cheaper than film.
