using both HPX 171e adn HPX 2100e cameras

Someone from another division came and returned a card to us..... she didn't know who it belonged to but knew it wasn't hers.

There were no labels on the card (either physically as a sticker on the outside or digitally on the inside.)

If I format the card in P2CMS or My Computer or P2Viewer..... I can sucessfully label the card as I: HOFSTETTER1

This way, I know it is my card, number 1.

But if I shoot, edit and then reformat the card in either camera (so I can shoot again) that label is gone.

Is there a way to permanently label the card digitally / internally ??

Yes. You can assign a name/password to the card by using the P2 Card Manager software, on Windows. Click the little "P2" icon in the lower right taskbar, and it'll show you the option to name and password-protect your cards.

That name is >not< the same as the volume name that you assign when formatting the card. In fact, I really don't know how to access that name other than through the P2 Card Manager, but ... it's there, and it can be permanently assigned and password-protected.
