P2 card offload to Macbook Pro, Powerbook, or Netbook??

I am new to the Panasonic P2 camcorder, just got the HPX170. I am now thinking about using a laptop to offload the P2 media in the field. I have 2.4Ghz Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard and a 667Mhz Powerbook G4 with Tigher 10.4.11 and using Final Cut Studio 2. I have read lots of posts regarding the Dualadapter is not compatible with the Snow Leopard. Can I use my old Powerbook G4 as a offload machine instead? Can I just plugin the P2 card into the PCMCIA slot on the left of the Powerbook?

Just curious if any $300 PC netbook work for the P2 workflow.

Any idea?

As long as you can install the Panasonic drivers on your G4, you should be able to use it. I used to use the PCMCIA slot in my old PowerBook G4 to offload cards, and it worked well. Just can't remember if I used it before I upgraded it to Leopard.

As to netbooks for P2 offloading, I believe there is a helpful post by Barry Green on this topic.

yeah, as long as you have the right panasonic drivers, your leopard G4 will work great! i use a similarly equipped one all the time. in fact its probably the BEST way to go in the mac world.

snow leopard will not work any p2 adapter for ur mbp, so that's not even an option. leopard has duel adapter issues where it crashes if u use p2 software to offload instead of copy and paste. have tried it on 3 different mbp on leopard and it all did the same thing. G4 is so far the best p2 offloader for the field mac wise, speeds are more consistant in extreme temperatures, and the slot doesn't break like a duel adapter does. might be better off with OS Tiger for a g4
