Just got back from Miami from a 4 day shoot with P Diddy and Dirty Money. We shot on the Canon 7D and we did some pretty big setups with it.

First we put the 7D with a 10-20mm on a 12' Jimmy Jib provided by Black Dog Jibs (http://www.blackdogjib.com/) on a insert camera car and did a few hood mounts, dolly tows, and free riding. The moves are pretty cool and the small form factor of the 7D allowed for some up interesting perspectives we probably wouldn't have been able to do with a RED and a 17-80mm Optimo.

We did two night into sunrises with this rig. The images at night were pretty amazing, we tried to stay at 3200 iso when possible. When the sun came up we were able to capture some amazing subtle natural light that no other camera could really pick up on.

Besides the camera car we used a fully built 30' Jimmy Jib and a 12' for more standard performance setups.

I'll post the video when it comes out, should be an exciting one.

 Cheers,

Matt

I have a 7D

I am just curious as why the 7d was used for this project

yeah, i have the same question. i have a 7d. great for what it is, but not as good as a red or even an ex1 with an adapter. just seems interesting that for a video with celebs and at least some kind of budget that they would choose the 7d over other cams.

Workman shot Fabolous and Jay-Z with a 5d. So with Diddy and Jay-Z my math says that's easily 1.5 billion worth of entertainer shot on sub $2699 cams. I think its the bees knees myself, and his blog is full of big projects he's shot on little cams. Fans aren't watching these videos and screaming that looks like a 7d! Rik Cordero's last video was shot on Red and I think it came out lookin' like shizzle...but then again he didn't have Matt behind the lens.

jeez.... can all the fanboys chill for a bit and let someone who actually worked on this video answer a legitimate question?

again, i own a 7d. i like it. i'm not trolling. i just want to hear the OP's thoughts on why he chose the 7d when he could have probably used anything he wanted.

This has been discussed countless times. People aren't as caught up in specs as most of us are. They could care less if it is a red or a ex1 if the footage is shot garbage. If the 7d is good enough for them maybe the issue lies with those who have over priced gear and are being bided out of pro jobs by consumer equipment in the hands of true artist who can maximize the consumer gear to get a pro look.
