Oversold: starring Crissy Moran

Hmm, a famous (former?) Porn Star giving acting a shot. Should be interesting. Can't wait to see what happens with this.

Sounds interesting.

The trailer was okay. Got me curious, but it's sounding a lot like "the girl next door" storyline. guy falls for girl, finds out she's a porn star, tries to get her out, ex/manager comes in and tries to get her back in, etc. don't know the Hosey story though.

One thing though, just seems like at 1:34, there's a touching, maybe even funny moment where they're getting married in vegas and some elvis is dancing in the background in a silly way. Yet there's a strange tone, some synth comes in to try and perhaps try and give the idea that this may not be the best idea, that there's something really wrong with this image, yet it completely juxtaposes and left me a bit confused.

Acting was okay, nothing great. Not really expecting much out of Cirssy Moran, but she seems okay.

And how would you know Crissy Moran Jon? ;)

Good trailer, some bits of it were weak, but over all great job on it.

The first sound effect HAS to go. It sounds like it's in everything.

It was a cinematic trailer though, regarding the editing and story.

Will this be for sale?

Great job on it.

Normally I wouldn't comment on a trailer like this, but since the story comes from the Bible and you seem hell-bent on producing it -- LOL -- I'm going to try and help you with a suggestion.

If you were telling the story of this chick, ok, you could use her in the title role and exploit her audience base. However, this is not her story and the Bible shouldn't be thrown to the dogs.

So to make your movie saleable, I suggest you hire a talented actress who has the ability to lift your movie out of the gutter. Then the story of the pastor who marries a stripper would be more appealing and would potentially catch a much bigger audience.

Production values were excellent and so was the trailer. Good luck.

I think the audience he's aiming at is indeed her fans. At least that's what Chrissy Moran seems to feel is the goal. And I like the fact (or what it seems from the trailer) that there's a struggle between a good guy and a bad guy who both would consider themselves Christians. Also I'll say this, an ex-pornstar in a Christian film is going to be controversial and I bet DCCowan runs into some of the same problems his protagonist does. LOL. As far as the Bible, it is what it is. Judah had sex with his daughter in-law thinking she was a hooker so let's not pretend all our Biblical heroes were so Holy. The Bible has all kinds of stories about "Holy" men and badgirls. If the Bible took place in our time this is what it would look like. DC toned it down making the character a stripper versus a hooker. I just hope this isn't promoted like a Christian film.

But don't you think it would be a better movie if the actress playing the stripper was Meryl Streep? LOL Just kidding ... well, maybe Demi Moore? You know what I'm saying?

I didn't know this chick is a born again, what ... zipper upper? :-)

Yep. There's various groups with ministries aimed directly at pornstars. Some of her "fans" had some not so nice things to say about her conversion on the myspace site. I guess you find out who your "fans" really are.

With a story line like 'Stripper-prostitute' marrying a 'Man of the Cloth' it would be more like the Prophet Hosea, who was ordered by God to marry (or remain married) to a prostitute (or adulteress), and love her with all his heart...

Most Christians seem to miss that message, and are more inclined to be like Elisha, who when taunted by The Boys of the Town, cursed them, and two female bears came out and tore the boys to bits... obviously back when Palestine had bears running around...

Whether a 'former porn' star can act, act in such a role is left undetermined...

But of course believers in the Christian Message will be abhored if a real live prostitute, former or otherwise, unless clearly 'returned to the fold', playes any biblical role, other than perhaps the role of Jezebel, and only in the final scenes of her life, where she is tossed out of a window, killed on impact, and her body ravaged by dogs... until a prophet stepped in an said give her a burial, because she is after all a queen of Israel... (or there abouts...)

The other famous occasion where a prostitute saves the day is in the story of the fall of Jericho. A woman, Rahab, a prostitute (sometimes refered to as an inn keeper) gives aid and comfort to the spies of Joshua, and is spared the destruction with the others in Jericho when the Hebrews come awaring.

But that aside....

I watch most trailers and short films (Mit Out Sound...). If the images tell me the story, I think it is better for the short film or trailer format, than long sequences of shots and setups.

So my critique of the technical aspects of the trailer would be to tighten up the shots, all with an eye to build suspense-excitment about the movie.

As it was there were long passages of 'Talking Heads'... now while Voice Overs are criticised in feature length films, in trailers they are quite appropriate to give a few hints of the movie, the conflict, and character intros. A few words of voice over can setup a quick shot to some 'action' that will be understandable to the view in the context of the movie's story.

UPDATE:

I watch the trailer with 'sound', and really would recommend tightening up the shots, and perhaps a voice over to make the Trailer perhaps 1:00. If voice over doesn't seem to 'work', then perhaps some title blocks, or just really cut to the bone on the main plot line.

Good post j1clark. As a matter of fact they call this a modern day version of the Hosea story. Yes the trailer could be tightened. I like the quality of the image and the look.

There are a number of former porn stars turning to Christianity after their porn stardom wains, whithers, dissapates...

I'm always musing on how "Harry Reems" is now a realestate guy in Park City Ut, having undergone christian conversion, and has forsaken his evil past... and his female counter part, Linda Lovelace, also became a born again christian.
(perhaps it was something they ate at the crafts table...)

Personally I think christianity would be far more popular if there were more flirty fishing going on... of course, perhaps christians prefer such train wrecks, then such conversions seem to give much more 'value' to the program than otherwise.

I'm not really sure her popularity was waining. Porn fans seem like their stars as long as their working. And when some of these people leave they become more active than the Christians who sit around and judge everyone. Many of them start ministries. It's very interesting to see. When the Bible talks about hookers and such people getting to Heaven before the "Holy" people this is why. If you have to tell people you're Christian then maybe something's wrong. Sitting around telling everyone how Holy they are is not having a contrite heart, it's actually arrogant. I just hope she isn't sucked back into the industry.

Admittedly a conversion is more visible when the person's life was so drastically different. That's what I like about this film's concept.

What's really intriguing is how this way of casting is the other side of the coin in making a genre movie.

Off-topic much?

You've made a fellow A1 user very proud :)!!!
Like mentioned, a bit on the beginning could be tightened, perhaps shortened a bit. The way the trailer tells the story is quite good, as mentioned before very cinematic.
the part between the buying the coffee and being by the pool felt to rushed, as if something else could have been shown between, that shows that she might be starting to get interested.

Stock a1 or some adapters?

A genre film to me means that it looks like a real movie except some compromises had to be made, to save money -- mickey the productions values but still retain the look of the bigger movies. In this case, the clever decision to have a reformed porn star play a porn star so she can seem more believable in the role without having to hire a talented actress who can interpret the role from scratch.

A possible added benefit is that the movie maker would like to make a financially successful movie, so the porn audience might rent the DVD or whatever.

It's like the low budget mentality of the B-movie makers who use an older actor with a name to add to the commercial appeal of a movie or use a name actor for a few days. But the old actor is at least a good actor, and the name actor who works for a few days is probably a good actor, whereas the former porn star isn't a competent actress. They never are. Well, I've never seen one.
