Overcranking

I forgot (how embarassing )...

If I'm overcranking to 60fps to play back at 30fps should I still try to keep the shutter at 180degrees & thus at 1/120? Or do I put it at 1/60 which is the 180 degree for the ultimate playback speed of 30?

120 is the norm. Yes.

In my experience, though, I've found going even higher can also produce good results. You want a slow-motion effect, so think of each frame as a photo. When you go in slow motion, each frame will be given more attention, even if the playback is still 30fps. And presumably if you're using slo-mo, then you're capturing something fast moving. That's just how the eye works. If you're outside and you pump the shutter even higher -- 400, 800, 1,600 -- you'll get great results.

Of course this could be said for any shot. I just think slow-mo can really benefit from having a higher shutter speed.

Take a look at this vimeo video. It probably does a better job explaining then I just did.

Hmmm.... that hasn't been my experience.
You can see in my video here @ 1:33.... the slow mo is jerky and, IMO, amateur looking:
