Over head filming

I want to film a high shot looking down at the talent as they are walking through the woods with the 5d. I don't want to climb a tree to shoot down and a ladder would be to big and heavy to carry back into the woods. My thought would be to get a long pole and mount the camera on it this way I can walk with it still giving me the high shot. If I had one of those drone I would use it instead but I don't. Have any of you done something like this or have some ideas?

I thought of them and pigeons but they seem to want to fly in a different direction then I wanted them to LOL
