Over expose problem

I had some basic tests with 7D and i realize that what i see from the camera lcd and the transfered file from computer has 1-1,5stop difference. On my computer, pictures seems at least 1stop over than what i see while i'm shooting.I set lcd brightness a little high but still can't get the proper exposure. So now i always set the exposure 2 stop lower then what cameras lightmeter says ''thrue'', and its more acceptable now.Is it basic lcd preview problem or i should know someting specific for this dslr shootings.

And h264 compression really ennoying:( Now i remember the old good days with my hvx:))

Yes, that the LCD is doesn't match than the actual captured image is a widely known issue. Some people have learned to compensate for the difference in their heads when relying on the camera LCD while shooting. You could just adjust the LCD brightness.

Isn't he saying the captured image is hotter than what he expected from what he saw on the LCD? That's in keeping with what I have experienced.

Same problem here.
It seems very strange as the shot looks perfectly exposed in the lcd yet on the PC when i look at the clips the highlights are blown. There is no detail there. Wierd eh.:undecided

But is it just a few in the batch or is everyones the same? Help please

I had problems when the LCD brightness was set to 'auto', but now that I set it to manual it has been very accurate. It desperately needs a sun shade outside, but other than that, it's fine.

I put some color bars on a spare card and pop that in whenever I want to know what I'm seeing.

Here's the one I use if anyone wants it. Just toss it on your card and playback.

Yeah, setting the lcd brigthness 2 steps lighther helps out,but i guess it still not the right way,as long as we don't have another way. Reflections of sunlight to lcd is also something we need to aware of..

@dcloud, you're right it was a big lesson for me while i was shooting a documentary in china, and have to finish hole documentary without any ext monitor, at least i had my hpx-171 just in case, and saved my life...
