T2i Output to monitor- 4:3?? Where is widescreen?

So I have a little screen made for an iPod that I'd like to use as an external monitor during a shoot.
Its a 16:9 widescreen and accepts RCA analog plugs.

But when I plug the camera in, the screen appears to be trying to output at 4:3 and not widescreen. Weird.

I looked over the manual, but I can't seem to find out where to change this... I'm feeling really stupid right now, there's got to be a simple option I'm missing here. Can this thing output widescreen analog?

on hdmi, I understand it outputs 4:3, which is actually 16:9 plus black bands on top and bottom

I guess that means it's the same with RCA

some screens will let you zoom in and solve this problem, others won't

You mean black bands on the left and right? The top and bottom bars appear when converting aspects the other way around, no?
It looks great on my 19" LCD 4:3 monitor, but that's not very portable. Besides, the camera's display is wide, the recorded video is wide, isn't it kind of ridiculous to be exporting non-wide to the monitor??

yes, it is ridiculous, but I think it's what they do

as I said, on the output stream, they add black bands on the top and bottom of the screen; when a wide monitor tries to read this, it has to add itself new black bands, on left and right, and you end up with just a tiny image in the center of your monitor, surrounded all around by a thick slate of blackness

I think I saw this on a flick from a field monitor manufacturer, that was claiming "we can cope with this because we allow custom zoom into any part of the image"

edit: maybe it was here (I'm not sure, can't see it at work)
