Outdoor mic for loud situation?..

Buying equipment for a documentary project and need a mic.

We will mostly be shooting loud demonstration, outdoors, so the mic needs to be good to handle loud audio.
It would also be great if I can use the mic on the camera (without it picking up to much camera sounds)..

Should I use a shotgun mic?
Would Sennheiser 416 be a good choice?

I'd suggest you do some reading in the Audio forum first. Start with the yellow Stickies, especially "New to Audio? - Read this first please." You're asking a lot from a single mic, and there's not a mic out there that does everything.

Also, what do you mean by "loud demonstration"? How loud? What kind of activity or environment?
Do you need a mic to gather the sounds of this demonstration, or on-cam dialog in the midst of the demonstration, or both?
Is this an ENG-style documentary where a hand-held mic (reporter-style) is acceptable?
Will you have some one with with you to take care of your sound?
Are you recording second-system (separate recorder), or straight to camera? Which recorder, or which camera?
What other audio gear are you planning to purchase, if any?

And remember that on-camera is the last place you should consider placing a mic for crucial audio.

Well I don't know how loud it will be.. but people are screaming in megaphone etc.
Outdoors though, so it's maybe not extremely loud. The mic just need to be able to handel that.

The mic is really not going to be for recording dialog, more to record the whole crowd of protesters, or something in between.
I wan't it to be directional mic..

For the most part I will be take care of the audio my self, therefore the mic need to work having on my camera.
(Audio will be recorded straight to my Sony EX1r).

Maybe sometimes I will have a second person to help me with the sound, the mic will then be on a K-Tek boompole and then going through a Sound Devices 302 mixer.
But as I said, for the most part the mic will be on the camera.

I wan't a mic for just this purpose, not for other recording situations.
Is Sennheiser 416 good choice for this?

Most microphones can handle the levels you're describing. It will be important have someone monitoring the 302 and adjusting levels. Equally important is good wind protection. Depending on the weather, a softie may not be enough.

I purchased the Rycote W7 system with lyre shockmount, Rycote blimp, and windjammer and have never looked back. It has never disappointed me.

I considering buying a Rycote Windshield Kit'.
Is the Sennheiser blimp better than the Rycote?

No - the Rycote is definitely the best.

The patented "Lyre" suspension is the best there is. Rycote have continually been researching and developing windshields and fully understand the science and technology involved. Sennheiser stopped developing windshields many years ago and the Sennheiser one is a pretty old design now.

Other major mic. companies mostly have their windshields as OEM specials made by Rycote for them - even a certain major company (who shall remain nameless) who did make their own innovative windshield now have them made by Rycote and have stopped their own version.
