AJ-SPX800 P2 Camcorder Enhancements

New options for the AJ-SPX800 2/3” DVCPRO50/DVCPRO P2 camcorder includes 24p frame rate recording and proxy video recording. A new software upgrade allows the SPX800 to capture film-like 24p images as well as 30p and 60i. The new proxy video option (AJ-YAX800G) permits the AJ-SPX800 to record a low-resolution video copy (at three qualitylevels -- 1.5Mbps, 768kbps or 196kbps) for rapid viewing on a laptop or desktop PC and on a PDA, and in an emergency situation, for transfer by connecting to an ubiquitous cable modem, DLP or dial-up connection.

Now if we can only go straight from the HVX to the P2 Store Drive without any P2 cards! It certainly has the speed for data transfer. Maybe somebody will make a cable with a P2 card on each end (without the flash memory) that will let you connect the camera directly to the drive.

Don't think this is new but it's interesting for those of us planning on buying an HVX!

Takes up a slot in your computer just like a CD drive:

Yup- one cool thing about P2 is that even though it's brand new to us prosumer types it's been out for a year in the broadcast market. So there's been plenty of time to work out the bugs before we get to play.

I hope that they make the AJ-PCD10 for mac users.

Also I was wondering if you could hook up a monitor to the slot drive, that way you card loader could see that all the footage is being transfered, but then that might take more time to upload.

I guess the card loader could hand it off to an assistant editor and then he could log the footage and see that you got everything.

Actually, 2006 will be a much better year, when all this products hit the market and are incorporated into a workable workflow. And 2007 will be when competitors release the same products at affordable prices, and you will be happy to have a HVX200 because you'll actually have what to edit HD on... I think it will be two more years of DVCPro50, until we are ready...

I have FCPHD and we'll be getting FCP5 when it hits the market as soon as Tiger is working for the MAC. I can edit HD now.

The camera is coming out late fall of thise year,,,maybe sooner.

I want to know when you can record more than 4 minutes at a time , 8 minutes if you use two cards or you have the money to buy extra cards. Panasonic must have some kind of plan for this.

Does anyone care to guess what this ( AJ-PCS060 P2 Store Drive
) will cost?

Yes, I am wondering if they have given an estimated price at NAB for the AJ-PCS060 P2 Store Drive. It could be essential, though with only 60GB, and the new 8GB cards it doesn't seem like it will actually store all that much footage.

Yeah, I feel the same way. It still seems like that could fill up easily on a long shooting day, especially with 1080. I guess you'll just have to have a laptop handy to upload the store drive to a larger hard drive at lunch or something.

Or you could just plug in an external FireWire or USB2 hard disk directly to the camera and dump the P2 contents instantly. No need for a laptop.

Any word on the price of that widescreen monitor? It really looks sweet.
