F5: Other external recording options

Here's a silly question:
What can the F5 do on other external recorders besides it's own?
Could one shoot 120fps at Full HD (when the update comes in June) into a Samurai for instance?

I am not a fan of dropping a lot of coin on Sony's proprietary media and card reader, nor am I particularly in the market for their 4k recording unit at the announced price.

Conversly I wonder if you got the recorder can you record HD and Xavc (or whatever it is called) to the recorder/big cards

one set of proprietrt media is bad, two, I wont go there?

The F5 will ouput regular 1080p feeds via it's HD-SDI ports, which should support up to 1080p60 at a minimum via dual-link. Whether the four ports combined can send 1080p120 over a dual-dual-link feed to an external recorder remains to be seen.

I have to say, I really like recording the F3 to Samurai in Prores HQ and importing directly into my MAC, so easy to edit, not sure how the workflow will be with the new codec. Even with a plugin, it might still not be quite the same experience.

Well,

On the flipside, using the Sony RAW recorder you get full metadata and matching filenames. Even though the Samurai gets timecode and triggers automatically, you still have the hassle of conforming file names, and any metadata doesn't carry over either.

Right, but the Atomos XML export does have some metadata, probably not all, and now supports Avid DNxHD. I use these files exclusively, but it is nice to have the on camera SxS as a backup. With FCP X ver 10.0.7, the workflow of importing media is amazing. All the files show up with a filmstip of the clip to help pick the ones you want to import. Personally, I would hate to mess with the raw files. I can certainly understand raw for real high end work but most of the appeal is in the F55 due to the internal 4k codec, but to upgrade to an F5 just doesn't make sense to me at this time.

Most importantly, I believe that Sony should give a special deal to current owners of the F3 to purchase either an F5/55 since these are the thought leaders and getting the camera into their hands should make business sense.
