OSD Problem

I realize that for some reason, the Panasonic Engineers decided that the information on the OSD turns off during recording, giving you the picture but no information. I just can't figure out why? If this is something that can't be avoided (maybe because signals going out 1394 would be recorded and mess up an output) then I guess we're just stuck with it.

I feel that if there was a way around this issue, it would be really important. As an example, there are times when I use my Panasonic 7" monitor attached to my tripod legs when I'm shooting from a high angle. It's important for me to see just what is happening on the monitor. As most of you know if you've tried to do this, the information on the display turns off while recording, and the only place you can see it is on the LCD or eyepiece.

If anyone knows of a workaround, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks,

eric

Go into your "Display Setup Settings" menu, select "Video Out OSD" and turn it on. This will send everything to the analog outs.

As I mentioned, that only works as long as you're not recording. Once you hit record, the information on the OSD disappears.

Look in the manual on page 112 (Video Out OSD)
It says" When tape is used for recording, no on-screen displays will be output while recording is underway, even when the function has been set to ON."

I just want to know why????

Hi PrestonH:

I want to make certain that we're on the same page. I'm not talking about the video signal going out to my monitor. I'm talking about the recording infomation staying on during the recording. As soon as I hit pause, the information again appears on my screen.

I didn't look it up in the manual until it happened to me. It says that's what happens right in the manual.

Sorry, man. When I responded to your question I didn't realize it was within the HVX folder (I brought up unread threads). This must be unique then to the HVX, as it is not with the DVX. Sorry to waste your time.

Not a problem Preston. I also have two DVX100's and I do the OSD with them as you mentioned all the time. This just really frustrated me because I'm not able to even make certain that the camera is recording unless I can see the LCD.

Jan explained that the reason for this is that the ASIC's would overheat given the technology that we have right now. Hopefully down the road they will come up with a solution so we can monitor the information during recording on our external monitors.
